Not every midrange 5G phone tries to win on raw specifications. Nokia G42 5G takes a different route by focusing on repairability, durability, and long-term practicality, which makes it stand out in a crowded market.
That approach is reinforced by its self-repair capability, allowing users to fix the device at home rather than replacing it immediately. Nokia also pairs that idea with a design built for sustainability, including a body made with up to 65 percent recycled materials and durability testing aimed at supporting extended use.
Built for daily use, not excess
The G42 5G comes in So Grey and So Purple, with a simple design that keeps comfort in mind. It measures 8.5 mm thick and weighs about 193.8 grams, so it remains manageable for everyday handling.
On the front, Nokia uses a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution at 720 x 1612 pixels. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and reaches up to 560 nits of brightness.
Durability also plays a visible role in the device’s identity. Nokia says the phone has undergone intensive impact testing and a new pressure-testing method to better support active daily use.
Camera setup aimed at routine photography
The rear camera system is practical rather than ambitious. It includes a 50 MP main sensor, a 2 MP macro camera, and a 2 MP depth sensor, and all three rear cameras come with autofocus and LED flash.
For video, the phone supports recording up to Full HD 30fps. On the front, it carries an 8 MP selfie camera placed in a V-notch design for video calls and self-portraits.
This setup makes the phone suitable for everyday shooting without trying to compete at the extreme end of the camera segment. Nokia’s priorities are clear here: usefulness first, advanced imaging second.
5G performance with modest hardware
Under the hood, the Nokia G42 5G runs on the Snapdragon 480+ 5G chipset. It is paired with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
Storage expansion is still available through microSD support of up to 1 TB. The phone also ships with Android 13 and carries a two-year OS update promise, along with three years of security updates.
Large battery and complete connectivity
Power comes from a 5000 mAh battery, which Nokia claims can last up to three days under normal use. Charging support reaches 20W fast charging, giving the phone another practical advantage for daily routines.
Connectivity is also broad for its class. The phone includes 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, FM Radio, a 3.5 mm audio jack, USB Type-C, and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.
Pricing and market position
The Nokia G42 5G is sold at around 199 pounds sterling for the 6 GB/128 GB variant. In that segment, the self-repair feature becomes the most distinctive element, since it is rarely offered on other 5G phones at this level.
Taken together, the recycled materials, reinforced durability, large battery, and repair-at-home concept shape a phone that is built around longevity. Nokia is positioning the G42 5G as a midrange device that values convenience, endurance, and easier maintenance as much as core mobile features.
