Xiaomi is setting up the 17T series around two priorities that matter most to many buyers: battery life and performance. The company has now confirmed key hardware for the standard Xiaomi 17T, while also revealing that the Watch S5 will join the same launch stage.
The clearest new detail is the chipset choice for the regular model. Xiaomi’s India division has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17T will run on the Dimensity 8500 Ultra SoC, paired with a 6,500 mAh Si/C battery and 67W HyperCharge.
That combination positions the phone as a device built to last through heavy use without slowing down charging times too much. It also gives the standard 17T a more defined identity at a time when much of the attention has been on the Pro variant.
How the 17T and 17T Pro are being separated
The difference between the two phones is already taking shape on paper. Xiaomi has previously said the 17T Pro will use the Dimensity 9500 SoC and a larger 7,000 mAh battery.
That puts the Pro model in a higher class on both processing power and battery capacity. Even so, the regular 17T still arrives with hardware that looks strong for its segment.
Camera range is also part of the pitch
Xiaomi has also revealed how flexible the 17T’s camera setup will be when it comes to focal lengths. The phone is said to support 23mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 115mm equivalents for standard shooting.
Beyond that, the device adds Telemacro at 230mm and Ultra Zoom reaching 460mm. Xiaomi had already indicated that both the 17T and 17T Pro will feature a Leica 5x Telephoto camera, so the wider range now gives a clearer picture of how the series wants to handle photography.
That spread of focal lengths suggests a focus on versatility rather than a single shooting style. It gives users options for wide framing, portraits, telephoto work, and longer-distance zoom from the same device.
Watch S5 joins the same event
The smartphone launch will not stand alone. Xiaomi’s global team on X has confirmed that the 46mm Watch S5 will debut alongside the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro on 28 May.
Xiaomi has not disclosed the full specification list for the watch yet. Still, the teaser says the Watch S5 will arrive with a slimmer profile, a larger display, and battery life designed to keep up with daily activity.
That makes the launch more than just a phone announcement. Xiaomi is clearly presenting a broader ecosystem push, with a wearable positioned as a companion to the new 17T lineup.
What is now known about the standard 17T
With the latest confirmations, the regular Xiaomi 17T now has a much clearer profile. It will use the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, a 6,500 mAh Si/C battery, 67W HyperCharge, and a camera system built around a wide range of focal lengths.
The broader series is scheduled to be introduced on 28 May, while Xiaomi 17T is expected to make its India debut on 4 June. Watch S5 will be part of the same launch moment, adding another layer to Xiaomi’s push for the event.
