Casio Trims Down G-Steel, All-Black Pair Keeps G-Shock Toughness in a Slimmer Form

Casio is leaning further into a slimmer G-Shock identity with two new all-black G-Steel models, the GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A. Both watches keep the rugged metal look that defines the line, but they arrive with a profile that is noticeably less bulky than what many buyers still associate with G-Shock.

The most immediate change is the size. Each model measures 46.9 x 44.2 mm and sits just 11.6 mm thick, a figure that gives the series a much more restrained presence on the wrist. Casio reached that profile by using a smaller internal module and a different method of mounting the crystal.

A slimmer G-Steel without losing the metal feel

Even with the reduced thickness, Casio did not strip away the core structure that makes G-Shock recognizable. The watch still uses a bio-based resin core reinforced with carbon, then adds a stainless steel bezel on top to preserve the solid, industrial character of the G-Steel family.

The exterior has also been kept visually clean. Instead of the large G-Shock branding often seen on other models, the bezel relies on a mix of brushed and polished finishing for a more understated appearance.

Black ion plating across the metal parts

Both watches follow an all-black approach, and Casio applies black ion plating to nearly every visible metal component. That includes the bezel, stainless steel bracelet, side buttons, screw-down crown, clasp, and outer screws.

There is still a distinction between the two versions. The GST-B1000BD-1A is presented as the black variant, while the GST-B1000BD-2A is positioned as the blue variant.

Power and connectivity stay practical

Casio pairs the new G-Steel models with Tough Solar charging, keeping them practical for daily use. Under normal conditions, the watch can run for about five months on a full charge, while power-saving mode can extend storage time in the dark to as much as 18 months.

Bluetooth is also included on both models. When connected to a smartphone through the Casio Watches app, the watch can sync time automatically and let users adjust settings from the phone.

The app also supports time and location logging, and it offers a phone finder function to help locate a misplaced handset.

Core G-Shock functions remain intact

Despite the slimmer body, the GST-B1000BD series still carries the expected G-Shock basics. Both watches are rated for 200 meters of water resistance and use mineral glass.

For visibility, Casio adds a white LED light to help read the analog dial in low light. The display layout uses three main hands and two subdials, with the subdials handling the day and 24-hour indications.

The functional package is rounded out with a 30-minute stopwatch, countdown timer, and daily alarm.

Launch details and pricing

Casio plans to release the GST-B1000BD-1A and GST-B1000BD-2A in Japan in June 2026. Each model is priced at ¥75,900, placing the series as a slimmer and more refined take on G-Steel while keeping the metal-heavy look and tough construction that remain central to G-Shock.
