Vivo’s next flagship is shaping up to be far more than a routine refresh, with leaked details pointing to a camera system built around a 200MP periscope lens and a strong push for low-light zoom performance. The model in question, the Vivo X500 Pro Max, is being tested with a triple-camera setup that combines 50MP, 50MP, and 200MP sensors.
The biggest headline sits in the telephoto department. Vivo is reportedly experimenting with a 200MP periscope camera that uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor, a combination that could raise the bar for long-range shots while also improving stability in dim lighting.
That telephoto focus suggests Vivo is not chasing resolution for its own sake. The larger sensor size indicates the company wants the periscope module to do more work in challenging scenes, especially when zooming at night or in other low-light conditions.
Camera testing is still ongoing
The hardware is not locked in yet. Digital Chat Station, a leaker with a strong track record, says the Vivo X500 Pro Max is still in testing, which means the final camera arrangement may still change before launch.
According to the same leak, the main camera prototype uses a Sony LOFIC 50MP sensor with a 1/1.28-inch size. While the exact sensor name was not stated, the tip points toward the possibility of the unreleased Sony LYT-838.
The ultra-wide camera is also still under evaluation. Vivo is said to be testing a 50MP IMX8-series sensor with a mid-sized format, although a smaller 50MP option remains on the table.
A flagship built beyond imaging
The camera setup is only part of the story. The Vivo X500 Pro Max is also said to feature a flat 6.85-inch BOE display with LIPO technology, plus 2K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.
Those display specifications place the phone firmly in premium territory. Combined with the camera ambitions, they indicate a device meant to compete as a full flagship rather than a camera-first product alone.
Performance is also expected to receive a major upgrade. The device is tipped to use a Dimensity 9600-series chip built on a 2nm process, although the exact model has not been revealed.
Big battery, unclear charging details
Battery life could be another major selling point. The Vivo X500 Pro Max is rumored to carry an 8,000mAh battery, a very large capacity for a flagship smartphone.
Charging details have not been disclosed yet. There is still no information on wired charging speed or whether wireless charging will be included.
Software appears to follow Vivo’s latest direction as well. The phone is expected to launch with Android 17 and OriginOS 7 out of the box, suggesting the company wants the hardware upgrade to arrive with its newest software platform.
For now, the camera remains the part drawing the most attention. If Vivo keeps the 50MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide, and 200MP periscope arrangement intact, the X500 Pro Max could become one of the company’s most ambitious photography-focused flagships yet.
Digital Chat Station also says the broader Vivo X500 series may arrive in September, with the Pro Max positioned as a new addition to the family. Even so, the final configuration remains subject to change while the device continues its testing phase.
