A morning jog in Kelapa Gading ended in a matter of seconds when a woman lost her iPhone 17 Promax to a street mugging. The incident happened while she was holding her phone and looking at the screen, a moment of distraction that two riders allegedly used to strike quickly.

The victim, identified as LL, 45, is a homemaker who had started exercising around 6:00 a.m. near her home. The theft occurred around 7:04 a.m. on Jalan Raya Arteri Gading Pelangi, Pegangsaan Dua, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

How the incident unfolded

LL had paused at an Indomaret on Jl. Arteri Gading Pelangi before continuing her jog. When she stepped out of the store, she was still carrying her phone and looking at it.

At that point, two unknown men approached from the opposite direction and snatched the phone directly from her hand. The attack happened so fast that she had no chance to hold on to the device.

She then shouted for help, yelling that she had been mugged. No one nearby managed to intervene before the suspects sped away with the phone.

Suspects fled on a matic scooter

Police said the two suspects were men wearing hoodies and riding a matic scooter. After grabbing the phone, they fled toward Jalan Raya Arteri and continued in the direction of Pulogadung.

The quick getaway made the theft even harder to stop. In this case, the victim’s attention was split between jogging and looking at her screen, creating the opening the suspects needed.

Police response and follow-up

LL later reported the case to Polsek Kelapa Gading so the incident could be processed further. The formal report has since become the basis for an ongoing investigation.

Kanit Reskrim Polsek Kelapa Gading, AKP Kiki Tanlim, said officers had already checked the location after receiving the report. Police also reviewed CCTV footage around the scene and interviewed witnesses.

Investigators are still tracking the two suspects using the early findings from the scene and information from local residents. The focus remains on the camera footage and any other trace that may help identify their route after the robbery.

A busy street, but not a safe one for distraction

Jalan Raya Arteri Gading Pelangi is a route often used by residents for morning exercise and daily travel. Even in a busy area, a brief moment of inattention can still become an opportunity for street crime.

The case adds to the list of street thefts that target people when their guard is down. In this incident, a phone held in plain view during a routine jog became the target within seconds.
