Samsung is reportedly preparing a notably different strategy for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 by moving away from a single-chip approach. The foldable is said to arrive with two processor options, Exynos 2600 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, depending on the market.
That shift would mark a return for Snapdragon in the Galaxy Z Flip line after Samsung leaned more heavily on Exynos for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It also revives a familiar pattern in Samsung’s flagship portfolio, where chipset choices often vary by region.
Market split could shape the launch
The rumored division is clear enough to stand out. The United States, Canada, Japan, and China are expected to get the Snapdragon variant, while India, Europe, and South Korea may receive the Exynos 2600 model.
This is not a new tactic for Samsung, but it is more striking on a foldable device. Galaxy Z Flip models have usually carried Snapdragon chips in many markets, so a dual-chipset rollout would represent a meaningful strategic adjustment.
Why Snapdragon still matters
Samsung is said to want Snapdragon in several major markets to preserve the premium performance image of the Galaxy Z Flip 8. There are still lingering questions about the long-term performance and thermal efficiency of Exynos 2600 compared with Qualcomm’s flagship chip.
At the same time, Exynos remains important to Samsung’s broader plans. Using its own chip can reduce dependence on Qualcomm, support internal chipset development, and help manage production costs.
Samsung is also understood to be facing limits in first-generation 2nm manufacturing capacity, which adds another layer to the decision.
Exynos 2600 appears more competitive
Previous benchmark leaks suggest Exynos 2600 is no longer far behind. The 2nm chip is said to be able to compete with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 across several usage scenarios.
It is also claimed to deliver strong multi-core performance and better power efficiency than earlier Exynos generations. Even so, Snapdragon still carries stronger market trust thanks to application optimization, performance stability, and broad compatibility across regions.
Looking ahead to Galaxy Unpacked
Samsung has not confirmed the Galaxy Z Flip 8 specifications. However, industry reports expect it to be introduced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at a Galaxy Unpacked event rumored for July 22, 2026.
If the dual-chipset rumor proves accurate, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could become one of Samsung’s most closely watched foldables in years. It would show that Samsung is still pushing Exynos forward without fully stepping away from Qualcomm in strategically important markets.
