Three unreleased Samsung foldables have appeared on India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification platform, adding weight to expectations that the company’s next wave of foldables is approaching faster than many expected. The listing does not reveal hardware details, but it does strengthen the signal that Samsung is already preparing a wider launch push.
The devices are widely linked to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Their appearance on BIS also aligns with growing anticipation that Samsung could stage its next Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July.
Three model numbers point to Samsung’s next move
According to the BIS database, Samsung devices carrying model numbers SM-A857B / SM-F776B, SM-D642B / SM-F971B, and SM-D647B / SM-F976B have received certification in India. Those identifiers are believed to correspond to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The certifications were granted between 4 June and 9 June. That window suggests Samsung has been actively preparing regional approval steps ahead of a broader rollout, including in India.
BIS does not disclose specifications, so the filings do not confirm design, chipset, or display changes. Even so, certifications of this kind often arrive close to a device’s official unveiling.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra looks increasingly likely
Among the three, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the clearest name so far. The model had already surfaced through a Bluetooth SIG appearance, which makes the Ultra branding look more credible than the others.
The flip model is expected to continue under the Galaxy Z Flip 8 name as Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The larger book-style model remains less certain, with “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide” and “Galaxy Z Fold Wide” both circulating as possible names.
Samsung could still simplify the naming and sell that device as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The uncertainty is notable because it suggests the company may be reconsidering how it organizes its premium foldable lineup.
July Unpacked may bring more than foldables
If the rumored 22 July Unpacked schedule holds, Samsung’s latest certifications would fit neatly into the usual pre-launch pattern. The timing would indicate that local approvals are moving in step with the global announcement cycle.
The event is also expected to cover more than foldable phones. Samsung is reportedly preparing updates for its smartwatch line and other Galaxy ecosystem products as well.
India remains a major market for Samsung, so certification there is often a meaningful marker for launch readiness. Once devices clear local approval, the path to a near-term release usually becomes much clearer.
A possible shift in Samsung’s foldable strategy
Rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be Samsung’s last clamshell-style foldable. If that proves true, the device would carry unusual weight as a transition point for the company’s foldable roadmap.
Further speculation has already started to look ahead to 2027, where Samsung is said to be planning two book-style models: the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Wide.
Those future names remain unconfirmed, but the current mix of Wide and Ultra branding shows that Samsung’s foldable naming strategy may be changing. The Ultra label, in particular, suggests the company could be extending its premium hierarchy deeper into the foldable segment.
For now, no technical specifications have emerged from BIS, and Samsung has not officially introduced any of the three devices. Still, the combination of certification filings and recurring rumor patterns makes the next Galaxy foldable launch look increasingly close.
