One UI 9 Finally Adds a Built-In Network Speed Meter, But Only Through QuickStar

Samsung has finally added a network speed indicator for Galaxy phones, giving users a long-requested way to monitor internet performance directly from the status bar. The feature shows real-time network speed, so users no longer need to open a separate app just to check how fast their connection is running.

There is one important detail, however. The option is not part of the core One UI 9 interface, but arrives through QuickStar, a Good Lock module focused on customizing the status bar and notification panel.

A cleaner alternative to third-party apps

For many Galaxy users, the biggest benefit is simplicity. Before this option appeared, the usual solution was to rely on third-party apps, which often required accessibility permissions, persistent notifications, or background services.

Those compromises could affect battery life and make the phone feel more cluttered. By placing the feature inside Samsung’s own Good Lock ecosystem, the company offers a more integrated way to see network speed without depending on outside apps.

QuickStar’s new option sits in the Indicator Icons menu. Once enabled, the status bar immediately begins showing the current connection speed, giving users a quick readout without opening anything else.

More control over status bar behavior

Samsung is also using QuickStar to add another useful switch in One UI 9. Users can now disable the “ongoing activity” chip, an expandable element that shows live activities from apps.

That chip can display a range of ongoing tasks, including calls in progress, timers, countdowns, and voice recordings. For users who find it distracting or unnecessary, the new toggle provides more control over the look of the interface.

The addition fits QuickStar’s role as a customization tool for the status bar and notification area. It also reinforces Samsung’s approach of delivering practical interface controls through Good Lock rather than placing every option in the main One UI layer.

Available only on One UI 9

Samsung has already been rolling out several beta updates for the Galaxy S26 series, signaling that the company is moving new features through testing before a wider release. The stable version of One UI 9 is expected to arrive at the end of July.

Wider distribution is reportedly likely to begin about two months later, which means not every Galaxy owner will get access immediately. Early availability will likely depend on device model, region, and the rollout schedule Samsung chooses for each market.

Even so, the network speed meter is the kind of small system change many users notice quickly in daily use. For Galaxy owners who have waited years for Samsung to add it, the QuickStar route finally delivers the feature in a way that feels built into the phone’s own software environment.
