Oppo is reportedly preparing a new foldable that could sharpen the rivalry in premium foldable phones. The device is being tested as a wide-style book foldable, and the current chatter places it in the same conversation as Samsung’s next high-end foldable and Apple’s long-rumored first foldable iPhone.
That positioning matters because the market for large-screen foldables is moving quickly. Huawei has already made a statement with the Huawei Pura X Max, Samsung is said to be lining up the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Apple is expected to enter the category with a model that may be called iPhone Ultra.
A wider foldable strategy is taking shape
Information shared by gadget tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests Oppo is actively testing a prototype with a broader display layout. The handset does not yet have an official name, although many observers are associating it with the Find N7 line.
The design direction appears to follow the growing interest in wide foldables, a format that aims to balance tablet-like usability with a more practical cover-screen experience. Oppo’s version is still at the engineering stage, but the concept already points to a more ambitious push in the premium segment.
Big inner display, useful outer screen
According to the leak, the engineering prototype carries a 7.6-inch main foldable display. On the outside, Oppo is said to include a 5.5-inch cover screen for everyday use when the phone is closed.
Two major panel suppliers, Samsung Display and BOE, are reportedly involved in the display supply chain. Their role is expected to support brightness, color accuracy, and long-term durability for the panel.
Flagship hardware is also in the works
Performance details are equally aggressive. The device is said to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, a chip reportedly built on a 2 nm process.
If that specification holds, the foldable would arrive with the kind of hardware expected from a top-tier flagship. The combination is aimed at stronger efficiency and faster responsiveness for both daily tasks and heavier workloads.
New hinge design and a premium look
Oppo is also believed to be developing a next-generation hinge system. The main target is to reduce the visible crease on the folding panel so the display looks smoother when fully opened.
Digital Chat Station has suggested that Oppo’s hinge solution could outperform several existing foldables on the market. The device is also said to borrow some design cues from Apple’s premium aesthetic, signaling a cleaner and more refined product direction.
Launch is still a long way off
Even with those early details circulating, the device remains in development. Current timing estimates place its debut in the first quarter of 2027.
That means the wait is still long, but the outline is becoming clearer. If Oppo brings together the wider display, upgraded hinge, and latest Qualcomm platform, the Find N7 could become one of the more closely watched foldables in the premium class.
