Motorola has already given the foldable book-style market a serious reason to pay attention with the Razr Fold. The device is being viewed as strong on performance and especially impressive on camera output, which is enough to place it in the same conversation as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup.
The next step is where the real opportunity begins. If Motorola fixes a handful of weak spots, the Razr Fold 2027 could become more than a competent successor and move closer to a truly complete premium foldable.
More choice in memory and storage
One of the clearest improvements would be a wider set of configurations. The current Razr Fold arrives in a single setup with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 16GB of RAM, a combination that is already powerful enough for on-device AI features and heavy multitasking.
But a lone configuration leaves little room for different buyers and different budgets. With RAM prices reportedly under pressure, Motorola may have an opening to broaden the lineup without abandoning its premium positioning.
Samsung has already shown how that can work with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which comes in three RAM and storage combinations from 12GB/256GB to 16GB/1TB. A similar approach from Motorola could lower the entry point and make the device easier to recommend.
A flagship chip that sits at the very top
Performance is already a strength, but the current chip still falls short of being the absolute highest tier. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 sits one level below Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and is closer to the earlier Snapdragon 8 Elite, only with a lower clock speed.
That makes sense when cost control matters, especially in a smartphone market that is expected to remain volatile through 2026. Even so, a premium foldable is usually judged by how far it can push flagship credentials.
That is why a processor on the level of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is one of the most logical upgrades for Razr Fold 2027. Motorola could also look at a flagship MediaTek option if it wants more room to balance performance and cost.
Wireless charging that is easier to use in real life
The Razr Fold is already generous in charging hardware, with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. On paper, those numbers are excellent for a foldable.
The problem is that the fastest wireless setup depends on a very specific accessory such as the Motorola TurboPower 50W Wireless Charger. That limits convenience and can make the experience feel more expensive than it should be.
Support for Qi2 would be a more practical step forward. The standard is spreading across more devices and accessories, and built-in magnets would make the phone easier to use with magnetic chargers, stands, and other add-ons.
Qi2.2 may cap wireless charging around 25W, but that is still fast enough for most users. Those who need more speed can still rely on wired charging.
Better dust protection, not just water resistance
Durability is another area where the Razr Fold is already respectable, with IP48 and IP49 ratings that point to solid protection against water and wet conditions. For a foldable, that is an important part of the value proposition.
The bigger concern is dust. The “4” in those ratings means protection only against particles 1 mm or larger, while smaller debris can still cause problems over time.
That matters because durability remains one of the main objections buyers have when considering a foldable phone. If Motorola can improve dust resistance, the Razr Fold 2027 would feel much safer as a long-term purchase.
Color options that match Motorola’s design identity
The final upgrade may sound cosmetic, but it still shapes how the product feels. Motorola has recently built a stronger reputation for bold finishes through its work with Pantone, including materials such as vegan leather, Alcantara, and wood.
The Razr Fold, by contrast, feels unusually conservative. It is offered only in two color choices that are effectively black and white, which is far more restrained than what Motorola fans have come to expect.
That cautious approach makes sense for a first book-style foldable from the company. Still, adding one or two new colors for the Razr Fold 2027 would give the phone more personality and better align it with Motorola’s broader design image.
With a stronger feature set, broader configuration choices, easier wireless charging, better dust protection, and more confident styling, the next Razr Fold could become one of Motorola’s most convincing flagship devices yet.
