Honor is preparing a mid-range phone that aims far beyond typical expectations. The Honor X80 Pro Max is set to launch in China on June 22, and its headline claim is unusually bold: a display with a peak brightness of 10,000 nits.
That figure is tied to local peak brightness, which means it applies to small areas of the panel when HDR content is displayed. Even so, the number places the device in rare company and gives Honor a strong talking point against rivals in the same segment.
A screen built to stand out
The Honor X80 Pro Max uses a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution of 2,788 x 1,280 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Honor also says the screen supports 3,840 Hz PWM dimming, which is intended to reduce visible flicker.
For everyday use, the full-screen brightness is rated at 2,000 nits. The phone also comes with very slim 1.3 mm bezels, helping the front design look more modern and leaving more room for the display itself.
If the 10,000-nit HDR claim translates well in real use, the X80 Pro Max could become one of the more compelling mid-range options for outdoor viewing and video playback. It is a clear sign that Honor wants display quality to be one of the device’s main selling points.
A large battery in a relatively slim body
Battery capacity is another area where the phone tries to separate itself from the crowd. Honor says the X80 Pro Max carries an 11,000 mAh battery, the largest it has ever put into a commercial smartphone.
Despite that size, the company claims the phone remains 8.08 mm thick and weighs around 203 grams. Charging support includes 90W fast charging, while 27W reverse charging is also available for powering other devices.
That combination suggests a device aimed at long viewing sessions and extended daily use without frequent stops at a charger. The battery specification also supports the phone’s wider positioning as a multimedia-focused model.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 powers the package
Under the hood, Honor equips the X80 Pro Max with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, which was announced in May. The phone also includes an optical in-display fingerprint sensor and Honor’s Hummingbird Architecture 2.0.
Honor says the software and system architecture are designed to keep the experience smooth over time. The company also claims the platform can make short-video playback up to 40 percent smoother than the previous generation and automatically manage memory to maintain stable performance.
Cameras, durability, and protection
For photography, the device features a 50 MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization, alongside an 8 MP selfie camera housed in a punch-hole cutout. On the durability side, Honor says the phone has SGS Gold Label Five-Star certification for impact resistance.
The company claims the handset can survive drops from heights of up to 3 meters. It also plans to offer a free screen replacement if the display is damaged in the first accidental drop, which adds a practical layer of reassurance.
Protection against dust and water is extensive. The Honor X80 Pro Max is said to carry IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, covering resistance to dust, high-pressure water, hot water jets, and harsher industrial-style cleaning conditions.
Honor has not yet revealed the official price or full availability details. Those will be announced at the June 22 launch event in China, and there is still no confirmation on whether the phone will be sold outside China, including in Indonesia.
