iPhone Air 2 Could Break From the Single-Lens Formula, a Dual Camera Is Reported

Apple’s next iPhone Air may be more than a routine refresh. Reports now suggest that the second-generation model could move to a dual rear-camera setup, marking the biggest hardware shift for the thin-device line so far.

The change matters because the first iPhone Air arrived with a single rear camera, a design choice that fit its slim profile. Adding a second lens would signal that Apple is trying to preserve the Air’s thin identity while giving it a more capable camera system.

Dual cameras and a wider shooting range

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who cited people familiar with Apple’s internal plans, the device expected to be called iPhone Air 2 is projected to arrive in spring 2027. That window covers roughly March to May 2027.

The same report says Apple is considering an ultrawide camera to sit alongside the main shooter. If accurate, that would give users a broader field of view and more flexibility for everyday photography.

The approach would also help Apple position the Air line more competitively without abandoning the design language that defines it. The challenge is clear: deliver stronger imaging while keeping the body as thin as possible.

A Pro-level chip is also mentioned

Camera changes are not the only rumored upgrade. The report also points to the A20 Pro chip, the same processor expected to arrive in the iPhone 18 Pro family earlier.

That would be a notable move for a non-Pro device. A Pro-class chip could improve not only performance, but also efficiency and image processing, although Apple has not disclosed technical details.

Battery life is part of the plan

Apple is also said to be working on better battery endurance for the iPhone Air 2. It is still unclear whether that will come from a larger battery, more efficient silicon, or software optimization.

The battery question is especially important for a phone built around a slim frame. Space constraints often make sustained endurance one of the hardest problems to solve in ultra-thin devices.

Internal development is already underway

The Bloomberg report says the project carries the internal code name V62, a sign that the device is already part of Apple’s planning process. The same report suggests the iPhone Air 2 could be unveiled alongside the standard iPhone 18.

That timing would place the launch in the same March-to-May 2027 window. For now, however, everything remains in rumor territory, and Apple has not confirmed the device, its specifications, or its release schedule.

Even so, the combination of a dual camera, a thinner-device design, and the A20 Pro chip has made the iPhone Air 2 one of the more closely watched unreleased Apple products. If the leaks prove accurate, it could become the most substantial update the Air line has seen since its debut.
