iQOO 16 Ultra May Be Skipped, Flagship Plans Turn More Selective

iQOO is reportedly reshaping its flagship roadmap, and the biggest immediate change may involve the iQOO 16 Ultra. Recent chatter suggests the Ultra model will not arrive this year, despite earlier reports that it was already under development.

The shift matters because iQOO has long been associated with aggressive moves in the high-performance segment. Now, leaks from Digital Chat Station point to a more selective approach for the Ultra line rather than a simple annual refresh.

Ultra may no longer follow a yearly cycle

According to DCS, iQOO may skip one generation for the Ultra variant. If that information proves accurate, the iQOO 16 series would arrive without an Ultra model, unlike previous generations that offered more variants.

The reported change also matches signals that iQOO had allegedly already been sending. The Ultra line is said to no longer follow an annual launch schedule and would only appear when the company brings a major technology breakthrough.

Earlier cooling rumors are now in doubt

In April 2026, reports circulated that the iQOO 16 Ultra was being developed with an internal fan cooling system. That detail had strengthened the impression that the Ultra would be an especially ambitious flagship device.

However, the latest leak from DCS suggests a different direction. The project is now said to be unlikely to materialize anytime soon, making the status of the iQOO 16 Ultra far less certain.

Memory costs may be influencing the decision

When responding to a user question on social media, DCS said rising memory component prices may also be affecting the decision. That cost pressure appears to be pushing the flagship strategy toward a more efficient product lineup.

Under that approach, iQOO reportedly wants the Ultra series to represent a genuine technological leap. In other words, the model would no longer be positioned as a routine yearly specification update.

Other iQOO launches are still moving ahead

Even with uncertainty around the Ultra, iQOO still has a busy product calendar this year. The iQOO Z11i is scheduled to launch in China on 3 July 2026 as a mid-range smartphone.

After that, the iQOO Neo 11S is also expected in July with a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset. By October, attention is projected to shift to the iQOO 16 flagship line.

iQOO 16 and the global market outlook

Several leaks indicate that the iQOO 16 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. At the same time, the Neo 12 series is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

For international markets, iQOO is reportedly not planning to bring the Neo series outside China this year. That could leave the iQOO 16 as the only latest iQOO flagship available globally.

Meanwhile, the iQOO 16T is expected to arrive only in the first half of 2027 in China. For now, all of these details remain based on industry leaks and have not been officially confirmed by iQOO, so the launch plan and specifications may still change.
