Casio has taken a noticeably restrained approach with its new G-Shock 2100 Luxe Black collection. Instead of leaning on bold colorways or connected functions, the brand is using an all-black design to make the series stand out.
The lineup is now available in the United States after first launching in Japan last month. Its appeal comes from a cleaner look, matte finishes, and subtle metallic accents rather than a long list of new features.
What makes the Luxe Black series different
The key visual element is a black dial with a textured surface designed to absorb light and reduce glare. Casio also slimmed down the hour and minute hands to keep the dial neat, while the hour markers get a soft metallic contrast through vapor deposition.
The familiar octagonal bezel from the 2100 series remains in place, but the overall presentation is more understated than many other G-Shock models. That shift gives the collection a quieter identity without losing the shape that made the line recognizable.
4 models, 2 material tiers
Casio split the series into two material groups. The GA-2100LXB models use resin construction, while the GM-2100LXB models use a stainless steel bezel with black ion plating.
Here is a quick comparison of the four watches released in the U.S.:
| Model | Main Material | Dial Accent | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GA-2100LXB-1A | Bio-based resin, Carbon Core Guard | Silver | 51 grams | $145 |
| GA-2100LXB-1A9 | Bio-based resin, Carbon Core Guard | Gold | 51 grams | $145 |
| GM-2100LXB-1A | Black ion plated stainless steel bezel, bio-based resin strap | Silver | 72 grams | $260 |
| GM-2100LXB-1A9 | Black ion plated stainless steel bezel, bio-based resin strap | Gold | 72 grams | $260 |
The resin-based GA-2100LXB models are the lighter option at 51 grams and cost $145. They use Casio’s standard Carbon Core Guard structure and pair a bio-based resin bezel with a bio-based resin strap.
The metal-clad GM-2100LXB models are priced at $260 and weigh 72 grams. They use the same bio-based resin strap, but the bezel is made from stainless steel with black ion plating for a denser feel on the wrist.
Basic G-Shock functions remain intact
Despite the different materials and finishes, all four models share the same internal setup. Casio uses two SR726W batteries, which are expected to last about three years.
The collection does not include Bluetooth, Tough Solar charging, or any smartwatch-style functions. Instead, it sticks to the familiar analog-digital G-Shock formula with a straightforward feature set.
That feature set includes 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, a 24-hour stopwatch, a countdown timer, five daily alarms, and world time for 31 time zones. Casio also adds dual LED lighting so both the analog hands and the small digital display remain readable in the dark.
The result is a G-Shock series that focuses on appearance, material choice, and wear feel rather than smart connectivity. For buyers who want the octagonal 2100 design in a more subdued form, the Luxe Black lineup offers two distinct ways to get it.
