Xiaomi’s New Desktop Photo Printer Drops Wi-Fi, Adds Sharper 4-Color Output

Xiaomi has introduced the Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 in China, and the biggest change is not just in print quality. The new model switches from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth 5.2, letting users send photos straight from a phone without joining the same wireless network.

That change makes the printer more convenient for quick home use, especially for people who want a simple mobile-first setup. Xiaomi is also betting that the upgraded 4-color dye sublimation system will give the device a stronger edge in image quality.

Sharper output with a black layer added

The new printer moves beyond the 3-color dye sublimation system used by the Mijia Photo Printer 1S from 2020. Xiaomi has added a black K layer to the process, aiming to improve text clarity and produce deeper blacks in printed photos.

That upgrade is meant to do more than refresh the product line. It is a direct push toward sharper results, making the printer more suitable for photo prints where detail and contrast matter.

More media options than the previous model

The Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 also broadens paper support. It can handle 4-inch double-sided photo paper, square adhesive photo strips, and 6-inch sheets in both 3-color and the newer 4-color format.

Compared with the 1S, the new model offers a wider range of compatible media. The older printer supported only square adhesive paper and 6-inch sheets, and it did not support 4-color printing.

Software features expand as well

Xiaomi has added several software tools to the new model, including LUT-based color mixing, AR dynamic photos, and smart ID photo mode. These features were not available on the Mijia Photo Printer 1S.

The company has also expanded finishing options. The new printer supports a range of laminate textures, while the older model only offered a high-gloss layer.

Compact desktop form and launch pricing

The printer measures 199 x 126.6 x 85.7 mm, which makes it slightly larger than the 1S at 194 x 124.6 x 83.6 mm. Even so, Xiaomi is keeping the footprint compact enough for a desk or home setup.

The Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 will appear on Youpin crowdfunding starting July 13, with a listed price of 699 yuan. Xiaomi is also offering matching consumables, including 4-inch dual-panel photo paper for 69.2 yuan and 6-inch 4-color professional photo paper for 69.2 yuan.

Additional consumables listed by Xiaomi include 3-inch adhesive photo paper for 99 yuan, 6-inch photo paper for 129 yuan, and a 6-inch 4-color professional paper pack for 159 yuan. Per-sheet pricing is also listed at 0.99 yuan for 4-inch double-sided photo paper, 2.48 yuan for square adhesive strips, 1.61 yuan for 6-inch 3-color sheets, and 2.48 yuan for the new 6-inch 4-color sheets.

With Bluetooth 5.2, broader paper support, and a 4-color print system, the Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2 positions itself as a more versatile home photo printer. Xiaomi’s latest model shows that compact desktop printing still has room to evolve, especially for users who want fast phone-to-printer output without relying on Wi-Fi.
