Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 7 Beat Samsung’s Phones to the July Security Patch

Samsung has started rolling out the July 2026 security patch in an unexpected order. Instead of phones or tablets leading the update cycle, Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7 are the first Samsung devices to receive it.

The move stands out because Samsung usually pushes monthly updates to its phones and tablets before extending them to other product lines. In this case, the company’s smartwatch lineup moved ahead even before the official July 2026 patch details were published.

Early rollout begins in Korea

The first distribution phase is taking place in South Korea, a market that often receives Samsung updates ahead of others. As with many previous rollouts, Bluetooth-only versions are getting the patch before LTE models.

That means owners of cellular versions may need to wait a little longer, especially after the initial non-LTE rollout is completed. Samsung has not yet published a full breakdown of what the July 2026 patch changes.

ModelUpdate SizeFirmware
Galaxy Watch 8170.04MBL330XXS2AZF4
Galaxy Watch 7165.28MBL310XXS2BZF4

For the Galaxy Watch 8, the update package weighs in at 170.04MB and carries firmware version L330XXS2AZF4. The Galaxy Watch 7 receives a slightly smaller 165.28MB package with firmware version L310XXS2BZF4, as tracked by Galaxy Alerts.

Security first, not new features

The file sizes suggest this is not a large feature update. With no official changelog available yet, the rollout appears focused on security and system stability rather than visible new functions.

Samsung typically fixes more than a dozen security issues in its monthly patches, but the specific vulnerabilities addressed in this release remain unknown for now. That detail should become clearer once the company publishes its official patch notes.

The timing is notable for another reason: Samsung’s wearables are setting the pace for the company’s July security cycle. Phones and tablets usually take priority, but this rollout gives the smartwatch category an unusual head start.

For Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7 owners in regions where the update is available, the patch can be checked through the Galaxy Wearable app on a connected phone. The path is Watch settings, then Watch software update, then Download and install.

Because the rollout is staged, not every user will see the update notification at the same time. Markets outside South Korea are expected to follow after the first phase progresses, while LTE variants should also join later in the process.

For now, the July 2026 patch gives Samsung’s latest watches a security lead that is not often seen in the company’s update cycle. The next key step will be the broader release beyond Korea and the eventual publication of Samsung’s full security details.
