iOS 27 Beta 3 Unlocks Expressive Siri on New iPhones, But Only a Few Qualify

Apple’s iOS 27 developer beta 3 is drawing attention for one reason above the rest: expressive Siri AI voices are finally active on select new iPhones. The change makes Siri feel more personal, but Apple has kept the feature limited to devices with the right hardware.

The feature is available on the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. All three models carry 12GB of RAM, which appears to be the requirement for running the expressive Siri voice experience.

What changes for Siri users

Before beta 3, the Siri voice option was still greyed out in the menu and could not be used. Users could only switch Siri’s voice gender, with no broader control over tone or emotional range.

With the latest beta, Apple has also required Siri to be downloaded again. That re-download resets AI settings to their default state, so users need to take the change into account before installing the update.

Apple Intelligence expands beyond the phone

iOS 27 beta 3 also pushes Apple Intelligence deeper into the Home app. Access is not open to everyone, however, because the feature requires the iCloud+ 2TB plan priced at $10 per month.

That requirement matches Apple’s earlier move to make unlimited HomeKit Secure Video camera support available through the same subscription tier. It shows that Home is becoming one of the company’s more tightly integrated premium service areas.

Accessibility and automation get practical updates

Apple also added a new “Live Recognition” section for accessibility. The feature gives users more control over how live object recognition works, and it relies on on-device AI to detect and describe objects through the camera.

The feature is especially relevant for users with visual impairments because it can provide real-time visual information. It is one of the more practical additions in the update, even if it is less visible than the Siri changes.

Shortcuts has also gained a new setup flow. Users can now choose between following a text description of the action they want or configuring the shortcut manually.

That adds more flexibility for people who prefer hands-on control over automation. It also makes the setup process easier to adapt to different needs and workflows.

AirPods and interface details also change

On AirPods, the Adaptive menu now includes a new slider. It lets users adjust the balance between transparency mode and noise cancellation more precisely.

That gives listeners finer control over how much outside sound they want to hear. The adjustment is designed to make the audio experience more responsive to different environments.

iOS 27 beta 3 also introduces several smaller interface changes. Apple Maps now shows a notice that route preferences have been moved and points users to the new location.

Apple Intelligence also warns users when data is about to be sent to Google’s cloud servers. The warning matters for anyone who wants AI processing to stay on device whenever possible.

Other small updates include a redesigned low-battery indicator, a slightly different wallpaper animation, a Reminders icon with Liquid Glass-style task bullets, and the ability to view cellular network details in Control Center without disconnecting Wi-Fi first.

The beta still focuses on bug fixes as well. While it does not overhaul the system in one step, iOS 27 beta 3 makes Apple’s direction clear: more AI functions, more accessibility tools, and more user control across the iPhone ecosystem.
