Neumann has launched VIS – Virtual Immersive Studio – a new spatial audio controller designed specifically for Apple Vision Pro. This innovative app allows creators to mix audio within Logic Pro using a 3D augmented reality environment, offering a more intuitive way to work with spatial sound.
Traditional spatial audio production relied on 2D interfaces, limiting creative flexibility. VIS changes that by presenting audio objects as floating elements in AR space, enabling users to manage sound positions with hand gestures directly.
This development transforms the mixing workflow by allowing producers to place audio sources as if arranging physical sound objects in a real room. As a result, automation becomes more expressive and mixing turns into a vivid, immersive creative experience.
Yasmine Riechers, CEO of Neumann, emphasized the broader vision behind this technology: “VIS is not just an app, it’s a new way to perceive sound.” She highlighted that Neumann’s century-long tradition of pushing audio innovation continues with VIS.
### Seamless Integration with Logic Pro
VIS integrates tightly with Logic Pro on Mac. Once connected, it appears as a device directly within Logic Pro. Users can display Logic Pro’s interface as a virtual screen inside Apple Vision Pro, resizing and positioning it anywhere in the AR environment.
Apple Vision Pro’s low-latency pass-through technology allows audio producers to see their physical hardware while using the virtual workspace. This lets users operate studio knobs and buttons on real gear without leaving the immersive mixing environment.
Such smooth transitions between physical and virtual spaces create an experience that was once only imaginable for audio professionals.
### Flexible Monitoring Options
VIS supports both speaker and headphone monitoring, enhancing workflow versatility. For mobile usage, Neumann includes the RIME plug-in, an advanced spatial audio monitoring system compatible with 7.1.4 formats.
RIME leverages Apple Vision Pro’s head tracking tech to deliver realistic directional sound as users move or turn their heads. This feature enables immersive monitoring anywhere, from top-tier studios to remote or unconventional locations.
Neumann’s Product Manager, Jorma Marquardt, explained, “We want immersive audio mixing to feel as natural and expressive as playing an instrument.” With spatial computing and gesture control, creators focus less on technicalities and more on shaping sound in space.
### AMBEO Technology Enhances Audio Realism
VIS uses AMBEO, a cutting-edge immersive audio platform known for delivering highly detailed spatial realism. Its advanced virtual acoustics algorithms enable producers to experience sound not just audibly but also sensorially.
Kai Detlefsen from AMBEO remarked that the collaboration with Neumann aims to democratize access to immersive audio technology. “VIS is about making this innovative tech easy and confident to use for both seasoned professionals and new talents,” he said.
