The global shipment of foldable smartphones grew 14% year-on-year (YoY) in the third quarter of 2025. This represents the highest quarterly growth on record for this device category, according to a report by Counterpoint Research released on December 2, 2025.
Foldable smartphones now account for 2.5% of the overall global smartphone market, reflecting increasing consumer adoption in the premium segment. Samsung leads the market with a dominant 56% share during Q3 2025, up from 54% in the same period last year.
Samsung’s shipment volume grew 32% YoY, supported by the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The new model features a slimmer design, lighter weight, improved hinge durability, and reduced screen crease, making it more appealing to customers.
Huawei follows Samsung in second place with a stable market share of 15%. Despite no movement in market share, Huawei’s foldable smartphone shipments increased 10% YoY due to new releases in their Mate series.
The third through sixth positions belong to Motorola, Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi respectively. Their market shares are 7%, 6%, 4%, and 2%. Among these brands, Vivo showed impressive growth in foldable shipments, rising 67% compared to the previous year.
Motorola also experienced growth with a 16% increase in shipment volume. On the other hand, Xiaomi’s shipments declined sharply by 54% YoY, while Honor’s shipments fell by 31% during the same period.

Huawei maintains momentum through consistent product releases, while Vivo’s significant growth signals rising competition outside the top two brands. Meanwhile, Xiaomi and Honor face challenges in retaining their foldable market presence.
As foldable smartphones gain worldwide acceptance, market dynamics remain fluid with manufacturers continuously refining designs and expanding offerings. The Q3 2025 results highlight Samsung’s dominance and the healthy growth trajectory of the foldable segment overall.
