Honda Jazz once reigned as a favorite car among Gen Z in Indonesia. It combined sporty design, durable engine, fuel efficiency, and spacious cabin features like Ultra Seat, making it popular for daily use and style.
When new, Jazz models from Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) could reach around Rp250 million (approx. $16,700), especially the high-end Jazz RS CVT. It symbolized youth who were stylish and active, attracting many automotive communities for customization.
Production stopped in Indonesia as Honda replaced Jazz with the City Hatchback. This shift has since significantly impacted Jazz’s resale value in the used car market. Depreciation and changing trends influenced this drop.
Based on recent market surveys, Jazz prices today vary widely by model year and condition. For early models from 2004 to 2008, prices range between Rp60 million and Rp120 million ($4,000 to $8,000). This is markedly cheaper than when new.
Mid-generation Jazz cars from 2010 to 2014 sell from about Rp130 million to Rp180 million ($8,700 to $12,000). The newer models from 2015 to 2018 list around Rp170 million to Rp205 million ($11,300 to $13,700). The latest before production ceased, 2019 to 2020 versions, still command Rp225 million to Rp245 million ($15,000 to $16,300), particularly in excellent condition RS CVT variants.
Several factors contribute to this price decline. Besides vehicle aging, consumer preference has shifted toward SUVs and crossovers, which are perceived as tougher and have higher ground clearance. Meanwhile, modern hatchbacks now include better tech and safety features, increasing competition in the secondary market.
Despite this, the Honda Jazz retains key strengths. Its i-VTEC engine is recognized for longevity, handling remains stable, and flexible cabin space is appealing. These aspects continue to attract younger buyers seeking sporty cars at more affordable prices.
Jazz’s price drop signals its transition into a “second life” phase. Once a Gen Z dream car, it now presents a budget-friendly option for owning a legendary hatchback. For many, it embodies nostalgic value tied to youth, now accessible at significantly lower prices.
