Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 Unveiled With Laser-Precise GPS, 14-Day Battery, And Real-Time Marathon Insights

Huawei has officially launched the Watch GT Runner 2, a smartwatch designed specifically for runners and fitness enthusiasts. The device boasts significantly improved GPS accuracy and an impressive battery life that can last up to 14 days on a single charge.

The Watch GT Runner 2 features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. It is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass and housed in a premium titanium case with a metal bezel. Despite its robust build, the watch weighs only 43.5 grams and measures 10.7mm in thickness, making it lightweight and comfortable to wear. It also offers water resistance up to 40 meters, which is suitable for various training conditions.

This smartwatch was developed in collaboration with renowned marathon legend and two-time Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge, along with the DSM-Firmenich Running Team. Huawei integrated a new 3D floating antenna with an optimized gasket design to enhance satellite signal reception. According to Huawei, this antenna performs 3.5 times better than the previous generation and maintains accuracy even in challenging environments such as tunnels or indoor areas.

In addition to the upgraded GPS system, the Watch GT Runner 2 includes a new inertial positioning algorithm. This algorithm uses the accelerometer and gyroscope system to accurately track the user’s route when satellite signals are weak or obstructed. The device also supports dual-band satellite positioning and allows for independent navigation without being connected to a smartphone.

Equipped with the latest TruSense sensors and algorithms, the smartwatch can monitor heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), electrocardiogram (ECG), respiratory rate, sleep quality, and stress levels.

One of the standout features is the Intelligent Marathon Mode, designed to provide real-time guidance to runners. This mode measures running power, offers dynamic pace coaching, and gives reminders for energy intake to optimize performance. It is also Huawei’s first watch to include a real-time lactate threshold detection algorithm. This algorithm helps runners assess their level of fatigue by measuring anaerobic threshold, which is crucial for endurance training and avoiding overexertion.

The Watch GT Runner 2 is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. It is powered by a 540mAh silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery, delivering up to 14 days of use under light usage scenarios. With continuous GPS tracking activated, the battery lasts for 32 hours, which is suitable for long training sessions or marathons.

Furthermore, the smartwatch includes an internal speaker for hands-free calling and NFC antenna for digital payments. Huawei has ensured that the Curve Pay service is available in the UK from the launch date, expanding convenient payment options for users.

The device is available in three color variants: Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black. Its retail price is set at £350, which converts to approximately $430 USD. Huawei has kicked off sales through its official stores with a promotional offer that runs until April 19. Early buyers can enjoy a £30 discount plus receive an additional free strap as a bonus.

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 targets serious runners who demand accurate data and long-lasting battery performance during their training. Its combination of improved satellite positioning technologies, advanced health monitoring features, and specialized running guides positions it as a competitive option in the market of professional sports smartwatches.
