Apple’s rumored 20th-anniversary iPhone is now being linked to a design direction that could look familiar to Android users. Reports suggest the device, expected in 2027, may feature a quad-curved display with subtle bends on all four sides, creating an almost bezel-less appearance.
That detail has fueled speculation that Apple is drawing from design ideas long associated with Samsung and other Android brands. The reported display approach would not be a dramatic curve, but a micro-curved panel that aims to balance a futuristic look with everyday usability.
A familiar shape, but with a different purpose
The quad-curved concept is being discussed as a way to make the iPhone feel cleaner and more modern. By softening the edges of the panel, the display could visually widen the active viewing area and reduce the sense of a hard boundary around the screen.
At the same time, the micro-curved approach appears intended to avoid some of the drawbacks seen in more aggressive curved displays. Strong curvature can lead to image distortion and touch issues, while a gentler curve is seen as a more practical compromise.
Apple’s reported display strategy goes beyond the curve
The display rumors are not limited to shape alone. Apple is also said to be working on a polarizer-free panel, often described as “pol-less,” for future iPhone models.
That technology is expected to bring several potential benefits. A screen without a polarizer could become brighter, the device could be made thinner, and power use may become more efficient.
Apple is also reportedly linked to Samsung’s Color Filter on Encapsulation, or COE, technology. If integrated, COE could help improve energy efficiency, which would support high-performance displays without placing as much strain on battery life.

These reports mark a shift from earlier speculation that the 20th-anniversary iPhone might use an all-glass design across the entire body. The newer rumor points to a more realistic direction from a manufacturing perspective, while still keeping the device visually ambitious.
A quad-curved panel may be seen as a middle ground between novelty and practicality. It preserves a futuristic feel, but it still relies on display technology that is already well understood in the smartphone market.
A return to a design once tied to premium phones
The idea also brings back memories of the period when curved screens were treated as a premium feature. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra stood out with that kind of design toward the end of the 2010s, before the market gradually shifted back toward flat displays.
That earlier trend makes the current rumor more notable. If Apple does move in this direction, the company would not only be revisiting a once-popular style, but also pairing it with efforts to improve efficiency and screen performance.
For now, none of the reports has been confirmed by Apple, so the final design may still change.
