HMD is setting up a new entry in India’s affordable 5G space with a clear focus on endurance and design. The Vibe 2 5G is scheduled to arrive on May 21, and the company has already confirmed enough details to make the phone easy to identify before launch.
The most immediate takeaway is the 6,000mAh battery, which gives the new model a clear upgrade over the previous 5,000mAh unit. HMD is also pairing that larger battery with 18W wired charging, signaling that battery life is being treated as one of the device’s main selling points.
A design that stands out on the back
HMD has also revealed the rear design of the phone, and that is where the device gets much of its attention. The Vibe 2 5G uses a rectangular camera housing with two rear cameras, a layout that has drawn comparisons to the look of the iPhone Pro family.
The main camera is a 50-megapixel sensor with AI support. HMD has not yet detailed the second rear camera, but the company has confirmed the dual-camera setup and the prominent shape of the module.
What HMD has shown so far
Beyond the camera area, HMD has already shown the phone’s overall body through official promotional material. The device uses a flat, two-tone back panel with the HMD logo placed low in the center.
The side layout is straightforward as well. The power button and volume keys sit on the right edge, while the left side is reserved for the SIM tray.
Ports and practical features
The bottom edge carries a USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, a secondary microphone opening, and a 3.5mm audio jack. That last detail may matter to users who still prefer wired earphones, since the jack remains a practical feature on a phone in this category.
The front design has also been shown in advance. HMD previously displayed a flat screen with a centered hole-punch camera at the top, giving the phone a more current look without relying on a heavily stylized front panel.
Launch timing, colors, and what remains unknown
HMD has updated a dedicated microsite with the launch information, confirming the India debut for May 21. After the unveiling, the phone will be sold through Flipkart.
Three color options are already official: Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue, and Peach Pink. Even with those details in place, HMD is still holding back some of the most important specifications.
The price has not been announced, and the chipset also remains undisclosed. That leaves the Vibe 2 5G’s exact position in the affordable 5G segment open until HMD shares the next round of details.
For now, the phone is being framed around a simple combination of features: a bigger battery, a 50-megapixel AI main camera, a dual-camera rear module with a distinctive look, and a familiar set of practical hardware choices. With the launch date already fixed and Flipkart confirmed as the sales channel, the remaining announcement will likely determine how competitive the Vibe 2 5G becomes once it reaches India.
