Pixel owners enrolled in the Android Beta program are getting a release that focuses on polish rather than expansion. Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 is now rolling out with a clear goal: removing the bugs that have been most disruptive in everyday use.
The update arrives only two weeks after Beta 1, which reinforces Google’s current approach of tightening stability before adding anything bigger. That timing also comes as Google prepares for the Android Show I/O edition 2026 next week.
Visible fixes across the interface
Several of the most noticeable corrections are aimed at the parts of the phone people see and use constantly. The cellular signal indicator, for example, previously could appear completely gray even while mobile data remained active.
Google has also addressed a strange home screen issue. App icons that briefly appeared too large when returning to the home screen are now fixed in Beta 2.
The lock screen was another area affected by a bug. Date and weather information could overlap the fingerprint scanner area, and that problem has now been removed.
Multitasking and app stability
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 2 also improves recent-app navigation. The swipe gesture used to move between recent apps is now said to work properly again.
Google has further improved the Terminal app’s stability. Before this update, the app could crash or keep loading without actually opening when users tried to launch it.
These changes point to a release that is focused on everyday reliability. That approach matches Beta 1, which also centered on bug fixes instead of new features.
Connectivity and calling issues
Beyond the interface, Google has cleaned up a Bluetooth tethering issue as well. The setting could turn itself off after the phone restarted, which made it harder to rely on.
The update also includes a fix for a calling problem in car screens. In conference call scenarios, the display in the car could end the call for the wrong person, and that behavior has now been corrected.
Together, those fixes cover both basic connectivity and a more specific in-car calling edge case. They make Beta 2 feel aimed at removing the kind of flaws that tend to show up only after repeated daily use.
Build details and device coverage
The new build carries the number CP31.260423.012.A1 and has an estimated download size of about 578 MB. Users should make sure they have enough storage and a stable connection before starting the update.
Google is distributing the beta to Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series through the latest Pixel 10 lineup. It is also available for Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
Users already enrolled in the Android Beta program can find it through Settings, then System, then Software updates, and finally System Update. Google is also keeping its feedback channel open through the device feedback app for anyone who wants to report remaining issues.
Security patch status
Despite the long list of fixes, Beta 2 does not bring the May 2026 security patch. It still uses the April 2026 security patch, the same one included in Beta 1.
That detail matters for users tracking Pixel software closely, because the main value of this release is stability rather than monthly security changes. With a broad device list and a set of bugs that affected signal display, lock screen behavior, multitasking, and connectivity, Beta 2 is shaping up as a cleanup release before Google moves into its next Android showcase.
