The latest leaks around Insta360 Luna Ultra suggest the company is aiming far beyond the usual pocket camera category. Rather than positioning it as a simple vlogging device, the design and feature set point toward a compact creator tool that could sit closer to premium compact cameras and even entry-level mirrorless models.
What makes Luna Ultra stand out is the way Insta360 appears to be combining portability with a more advanced imaging package. The leaked material paints a picture of a modular camera built for creators who want stronger optics, better control, and more serious video features in a body that still looks easy to carry.
A dual-camera approach with a telephoto twist
One of the most notable details in the leaks is the use of a dual-camera system. The main sensor is said to be a 1-inch unit, paired with a dedicated 3x telephoto lens.
That setup is reportedly developed with Leica, which suggests image quality is being treated as a major selling point. The main lens is said to use an f/1.8 aperture, while the telephoto side is claimed to support around 6x lossless zoom and up to 12x hybrid zoom overall.
For creators, that kind of setup is more flexible than the single-camera formula common in most pocket cameras. It gives more room for framing subjects from a distance without relying entirely on digital crop.
A modular grip that doubles as a remote
The body design also appears to be part of the appeal. Images shared by leaker Igor Bogdanov through @Quadro_News show a front grip that can detach magnetically from the main unit.
That grip is reportedly able to function as a wireless remote controller. It also appears to include a 2-inch OLED touchscreen, a joystick for gimbal control, zoom buttons, and a dedicated record button.
This design makes sense for solo creators who often shoot themselves from a distance. It also adds a level of control that is usually difficult to get without touching the camera body directly.
Gimbal stabilization and higher-end video options
Luna Ultra also appears to keep a full three-axis mechanical gimbal, which remains one of its biggest advantages over a smartphone. That kind of stabilization is especially useful when the camera is moving or when handheld footage needs to stay smooth.
Video specs in the leak are equally aggressive. The camera is said to support 6K recording at 50fps and 4K at 120fps, along with 10-bit i-Log and Dolby Vision.
Some leaked details also point to an additional slow-motion mode beyond those numbers, although that part has not been fully detailed. Even so, the overall direction is clear: this is being shaped as a serious capture device, not just a quick social-media camera.
Audio support also looks unusually strong
The audio side is not being treated as an afterthought. Luna Ultra is said to support 32-bit audio recording at 48kHz, and it is also reportedly compatible with Insta360’s wireless microphone ecosystem.
That matters for field recording, where sound levels can change suddenly and ruin a take. A 32-bit format generally offers more breathing room when handling unexpected volume spikes, which could be valuable for creators working outdoors or in unpredictable environments.
Pricing puts it in a more premium lane
The leaked pricing also suggests a higher-end position. Luna Ultra is said to start at around ¥5,299, while a larger Creator bundle may reach ¥6,499.
At that level, it is no longer just competing with compact travel gadgets. The camera starts to move into territory shared by premium compact models from Sony and Canon, as well as some entry-level mirrorless cameras.
For now, all of this remains tied to leaked promotional images, certification-like material, and unconfirmed specification reports. Still, the combination of a dual-camera system, modular grip, three-axis gimbal, advanced video options, and 32-bit audio is enough to make Luna Ultra one of the most attention-grabbing pocket cameras in the current rumor cycle.
