Power: Legacy Brings Tommy And Tariq Back To New York, Starz Bets Big On Its Most Electric Reunion

Starz has ordered Power: Legacy to series, bringing back Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. as Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick. The new chapter continues the long-running crime drama universe and places the two fan-favorite characters at the center of the story once again.

The series comes from Gary Lennon, who will serve as showrunner and executive producer after finishing his run on Power Book IV: Force. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is also executive producing, keeping another key creative voice attached to the expanding franchise.

Tommy and Tariq reunite in New York

Power: Legacy picks up in the present timeline after the finale of Power Book IV: Force. In that ending, Tommy and Tariq reunited and worked together to save the day, setting up the next stage of their story.

The official setup says Tommy returns to New York and teams with Tariq to take over the city. Tariq had already told his uncle that New York could use his help, and the new series will follow Tommy as he leaves Chicago behind for a fresh battle in a familiar arena.

That move is notable because Tommy had already established himself in Chicago’s criminal underworld. He also had a growing family there, which made the decision to return to New York a major turning point in the franchise’s ongoing storyline.

What the new series continues from Force

The previous chapter left several story threads in motion, including Tommy’s relationship with Mireya, played by Carmela Zumbado. Mireya, who is pregnant, left Chicago in search of safety while Tommy handled his business.

Her exact location was not revealed, though Tommy believes she may have gone to Mexico to stay with family. Fans have also speculated that she could be in New York, possibly staying with Tommy’s mother, Kate, played by Patricia Kalember.

Starz expands the Power universe again

The new show is a co-production between Starz and Lionsgate Television, a structure that differs from earlier entries in the franchise. Starz said the model gives it a larger stake in the long-term value of the series and its related revenue opportunities.

That business move comes as the company continues to build around one of its most durable brands. Starz said the third and final season of Force delivered record-setting in-season growth of 57%, and the season premiere has drawn 9 million multiplatform viewers to date.

Across the full franchise, Starz says the Power universe has now surpassed 2 billion hours viewed globally. That scale explains why the network continues to invest in new installments instead of letting the brand stand still.

The franchise keeps growing on multiple fronts

Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. first played Tommy and Tariq in the original Power series more than a decade ago. They later led their own spin-offs, with Power Book IV: Force built around Tommy and Power Book II: Ghost centered on Tariq.

The wider franchise also includes Power Book III: Raising Kanan, created by Sascha Penn. That series is set to return with its fifth and final season on June 12.

Another prequel, Power: Origins, is already in production in New York. It will follow the events of the Raising Kanan finale and feature Mekai Curtis returning as young Kanan, alongside Spence Moore II as young James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Charlie Mann as young Tommy.

Why Starz says the project matters

Starz President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby said the network listened to audience demand for more from these characters. She said the franchise “doesn’t die, it evolves with its audience,” and described the new series as a way to blend the brand’s legacy with “bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.”

Jackson also framed the series as a major moment for the universe, saying, “Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet.” He added that fans have wanted to see Tariq and Tommy together, and said bringing Sikora and Rainey Jr. back together makes the project special.

Lennon echoed that view, saying he was excited to reunite with Starz and continue Tommy and Tariq’s story. He also pointed to the tension at the heart of the new series, asking whether the two men can really share the city, the game, and the force that drives both of them.
