Church Releases Guide for September 6 Class Schedule Shift, Giving Members a Clear Roadmap

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a new implementation guide to help members and leaders prepare for Sunday class schedule changes that begin on September 6, 2026.

The update is more than a calendar adjustment. According to the guide, it is meant to support “joyful, Christ-centered worship” and strengthen the Church’s home-centered, Church-supported pattern of learning.

What changes on September 6

The revised schedule includes 25-minute Sunday School, Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women and Aaronic Priesthood quorum meetings, along with youth lessons. The Church also announced a youth curriculum based on an updated “For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices.”

On that Sunday, youth and adults will attend 25-minute Sunday School classes and watch two videos, “Sunday School” and “The Sabbath and Sacrament Meeting.” They will then discuss sections 1, 2 and 4 of the guide.

During the same meeting block, adults in Relief Society and elders quorum will view “Relief Society and Elders Quorums” and discuss section 5 of the guide. Youth will begin using the new curriculum after having discussed the changes the week before.

What happens before the rollout

During the first week of August, instructional videos and other resources will be available on sunday.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. The implementation guide is already available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and several others.

For other languages, the guide directs leaders to follow the instructions in the guide and a notice sent to local Church leaders on June 25, 2025.

On Sunday, August 30, youth, including Primary children who will turn 12 in 2027, will meet with their parents and youth leaders to discuss section 3 of the guide and learn how to use the “For the Strength of Youth Guide” and magazine. Adults will attend a 5th Sunday meeting, while Primary follows its normal schedule.

Primary and youth schedules

After the changes take effect, Primary will follow its normal schedule and last 55 minutes. That gives families a clearer transition as the new class timing becomes standard across youth and adult meetings.

Newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org said the implementation guide is designed to give members and leaders practical direction before the schedule shift takes effect. The guide also points readers to a PDF version that can be viewed or downloaded now.
