Former TNA and AJPW star Joe Doering is set to enter hospice care after a long battle with brain cancer. The update came through his GoFundMe, with his sister-in-law Mandy Banh sharing the news on Monday.
Banh wrote that Doering is “heading to hospice soon” and said visitors could send a message if they were local. She also asked for “all your good thoughts & prayers” as the family prepares for the next stage of care.
A difficult third diagnosis
Doering was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016 and later underwent surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. He was diagnosed with a second tumor in 2022, and last December he was diagnosed with brain cancer for the third time.
On May 15, Banh said he had been taken to the hospital by ambulance the week before. She said a CT scan showed the tumor was growing, chemotherapy had been stopped, and Doering had been placed on steroids while the family waited for next steps.
Impact on his health and career
After his last surgery in 2022, the tumor was located on his brain stem, according to the GoFundMe update shared last September. Banh also noted that he developed ataxia, which affects his right side and leaves him relying on a wheelchair and assistance for transitions or going up stairs.
Doering last competed at Wrestling REVOLVER’s Sunday FunBey show in August 2022. A week earlier, he wrestled alongside Violent By Design partners Eric Young and Cody Deaner against Time Machine in what became his last iMPACT/TNA match.
Doering is a two-time iMPACT World Tag Team Champion and a two-time Triple Crown Champion in AJPW. Wrestling Inc. said it is thinking of Doering, his family, and friends during this difficult time.
