Jack White’s Score Drives A Brutal New Detroit Revenge Tale In Motor City Trailer

Revenge does most of the talking in the new trailer for Motor City, and the film leans hard into that idea. The Detroit-set action thriller opens in theaters July 24 and keeps dialogue to a minimum as it follows a prison-release revenge story.

The latest trailer debuted online Thursday and puts Alan Ritchson at the center of the action as John Miller, a man chasing payback after getting out of prison. The cast also includes Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber and Ben Foster.

Jack White’s music sets the tone

The trailer starts with Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” before shifting into Jack White’s “Archbishop Harold Holmes.” White also provides the film’s score, while the soundtrack stretches further with songs by David Bowie, Donna Summer, Fleetwood Mac, the Moody Blues and more.

A crime caper built around action, not dialogue

According to www.detroitnews.com, the movie is largely wordless and lets its violence and momentum carry the story. It is directed by Potsy Ponciroli, known for Greedy People, and was first shown in 2025 at the Venice International Film Festival before also screening at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

Detroit setting, New Jersey shoot, R rating

Motor City was shot in 2024 in northern New Jersey, which stands in for Detroit. The Motion Picture Association rates the film R for strong bloody violence, some grisly images, drug content, sexuality/nudity and language.

An earlier trailer for the film debuted online in May, but this new look emphasizes the revenge plot, the period crime atmosphere and White’s gritty musical presence. That combination gives the film a distinct identity ahead of its July 24 release.
