Collin Gosselin has sent a pointed message toward his mother just weeks after revealing a memoir about his childhood on reality television. The move comes as reports say Kate Gosselin is unsettled by what the book could reveal.
Over the weekend, the 22-year-old shared a New York Post headline on his Instagram stories that described Kate Gosselin as “spiraling” ahead of his memoir. He blurred out her face and also reposted a follower comment that said, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light,” according to People.
A memoir centered on a childhood played out on TV
Collin’s book is titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, and he said earlier this month that it will arrive in October. In his announcement, he said growing up on television left him with a story many people never saw.
“For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story. Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television,” he wrote. “People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw. For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready.”
He added that writing the book pushed him to revisit painful moments, but also gave him something he had been searching for: his voice. “This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived,” he wrote.
The family history behind the rift
Jon & Kate Plus 8 aired on TLC from 2007-09 before the couple divorced. The series later continued as Kate Plus 8, which ran until 2017, while the Gosselin children remained in the public eye.
Kate reportedly sent Collin to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System in Philadelphia when he was 12, after he was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder. On Kate Plus 8, Kate said, “I was not able, with my own resources here, to meet his needs,” while Jon later said he did not know Collin had been placed in the institute until he noticed Collin was missing from lunch with the other children.

According to Daily Mail, Kate had no idea the book was being developed and does not expect the claims to stay quiet once it is published. The same report said Collin has evidence to support what he plans to say, while Kate has told people there are “zero facts” behind his claims.
Collin’s siblings, including sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Hannah, Joel and Leah, along with twins Cara and Madelyn, were also reportedly blindsided by the memoir. The source said they mainly know only what their mother has told them about what happened to Collin.
Kate’s representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Fox News Digital also noted that Collin has been estranged from most of his siblings and his mother for years.
For now, the memoir has become the latest flashpoint in a family story that played out publicly for years and is now headed back into view through Collin’s own account.
