A 63-year-old man drove through the closed gates of Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s East Hampton estate, causing significant damage, according to police. Authorities said the man appeared confused and there was no immediate indication that he intended to harm the couple.
The driver was arrested after police said he approached the property at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the mechanical driveway gates. He was taken to Stony Brook Hospital for pain, while his vehicle was impounded.
Police found no threats or weapons
Detective/Sergeant Jennifer Dunn said the man had no criminal history and appeared confused both at the scene and after his arrest. She said he did not make threats or mention the names of the home’s residents.
“It could just be chance he picked that house if he was having a medical issue,” Dunn told pagesix.com. Investigators were still working to determine why the driver entered the property.
Dunn said officers found no weapons, notes, or direct threats connected to the incident. Police were not sure whether the man knew who lived at the estate.
Driver had stopped at another home
Before reaching the estate, the man reportedly stopped at another house down the road and asked its owner for a woman by name. After being told she did not live there, he continued driving, and the homeowner also said he appeared confused.
Police completed criminal trespass and criminal mischief affidavits following the gate crash. Representatives for Jay-Z and Beyoncé did not respond to a request for comment.
The East Hampton property was bought in 2017
Jay-Z and Beyoncé purchased the seven-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bath East Hampton mansion in 2017 for $26 million. The incident came shortly after Jay-Z’s three-night residency at Yankee Stadium.
Beyoncé and their daughter Blue Ivy appeared during the concert run, which also featured guests including Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Eminem, and Teyana Taylor. The final night was affected by lengthy delays after crowds broke through security.
