Potential Sequel for ‘F1’ Movie from Jerry Bruckheimer in Discussion
The success of F1: The Movie on Apple has sparked talks about a possible sequel. Jerry Bruckheimer, known for producing Days of Thunder, appears to be involved in the discussions.
Ian Holmes, a Formula 1 executive, confirmed the interest in exploring another film. Holmes mentioned that both Bruckheimer and director Joseph Kosinski likely discussed the sequel idea during the recent Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Holmes emphasized that timing is crucial for the follow-up project. New F1 regulations will debut next year, altering the cars featured in the sport. This change could influence how the sequel is developed to maintain accuracy, as Holmes noted, "You don’t want to make a film, and then suddenly the cars are different."
The original F1 film performed strongly, grossing over $630 million worldwide. International markets contributed roughly 70 percent of this total. The story centers on Brad Pitt as a veteran driver who returns to the sport after decades to rescue his former teammate’s team.
The cast also features Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Tobias Menzies. With such star power and financial success, a sequel has promising prospects. The producers seem eager to continue leveraging Formula 1’s evolving landscape on screen.
Bruckheimer is also progressing plans for a sequel to Days of Thunder. Paramount Pictures recently confirmed development on this new installment. The original Days of Thunder starred Tom Cruise as an ambitious NASCAR driver and achieved over $157 million globally.
At the F1 premiere, Bruckheimer hinted at fresh elements to attract viewers for the Days of Thunder follow-up. He highlighted advances in technology and collaboration with Cruise as key factors: “There’s always new technology. There’s always new ways to do things and see things.”
As Formula 1 undergoes regulatory and technological changes, both projects may capture evolving motorsport dynamics. Fans and industry watchers will likely anticipate official announcements outlining the timelines and narratives of these sequels.
