Quentin Tarantino recently revealed how the Fortnite crossover featuring his iconic film Kill Bill came to life. During a special event at his Vista Theater in Los Angeles, Tarantino shared that Fortnite approached him with a unique request. Instead of simply licensing characters, Epic Games asked if he had any content roughly eight to twelve minutes long suitable for their game.
Tarantino had just the thing: a never-filmed segment from his original Kill Bill script called The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge. This chapter follows Yuki, the twin sister of Gogo Yubari, seeking vengeance against The Bride, played by Uma Thurman. According to Tarantino, the scene was originally cut for being "too crazy" and action-packed for the film’s final version.
Development and Collaboration
The Fortnite team embraced the unique concept immediately. Tarantino sent them the draft, and the collaboration quickly took shape. Thurman reprised her role using motion capture technology for the short, highlighting a blend of traditional acting and modern animation techniques. She expressed enthusiasm about the project, calling it "everything I love about acting."
At the event, Tarantino voiced the character of Bill and highlighted the strong overlap between Fortnite fans and Kill Bill enthusiasts. He described the project as a perfect launch for Fortnite’s new season and as a way to bring a lost Tarantino chapter to new audiences.
Release and Additional Screenings
Powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge officially premiered in Fortnite at the end of November. Alongside this, fans can catch an exclusive theatrical run of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, a combined and re-edited version of the two volumes, debuting in select theaters across the US, Canada, and the UK in early December.
This crossover marks a significant example of how gaming and cinema continue to intersect, creating new experiences that extend the life and reach of beloved stories and characters.
