Netflix Cancels Exploding Kittens, Twilight of the Gods, and Good Times After First Seasons

Netflix has officially canceled three adult animated series—Exploding Kittens, Twilight of the Gods, and Good Times—preventing them from returning for second seasons. Despite initial development or hopeful plans for renewal, none will continue, closing the door on these projects after their initial runs.

Exploding Kittens debuted in July on Netflix, inspired by the popular card game. The series featured a cosmic feud where God and the Devil occupy cat bodies, disrupting a suburban family’s life. Early development for season two began, but Netflix decided not to move forward. While the show ended, the mobile game remains a popular part of Netflix Games.

Twilight of the Gods, created by Zack Snyder and collaborators, premiered as a Norse mythology-based epic. It followed a mortal king and shield-maiden caught in a violent clash with declining gods. Despite some daily top 10 spots in over 60 countries, the series did not enter the global weekly top 10 and will not be renewed. Jay Olivia, one of the creators, confirmed second season plans fell through. Snyder’s overall Netflix projects have struggled to meet expectations, with several on hold indefinitely.

Good Times, a reboot of the classic sitcom, also failed to secure a second season. It sparked controversy over its portrayal and carried mixed reception. The show gathered 5.4 million views from January through mid-year, ranking 680th in that period, but Netflix found the figure insufficient to continue. The voice cast included J.B. Smoove and Marsai Martin, among others.

Despite these cancellations, Netflix’s adult animation slate remains robust. Upcoming projects include Ricky Gervais’ Alley Cats, Living The Dream from the creator of Apple & Onion, and titles such as Strip Law, The One Piece, and Magic: The Gathering. Renewals are also underway for Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, keeping the animation pipeline active with fresh content heading into the months ahead.

Netflix declined to comment on these cancellations. Fans continue to await whether other shows on the platform’s extensive animation lineup will face similar fates or find new life in future seasons.
