Dave Coulier’s Recent Health Update Following His Cancer Battle
Dave Coulier, known widely for his role on “Full House,” has recently provided an update on his health as he continues to combat cancer. After publicly disclosing his non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis last November, Coulier shared news of a new, unrelated cancer diagnosis detected during routine follow-up scans.
The actor revealed on the TODAY show in early December that he was diagnosed with early-stage P16 carcinoma, a type of HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer. This diagnosis came months after celebrating being cancer-free from lymphoma following intensive chemotherapy. Coulier described the discovery of this second cancer as a “shock to the system,” explaining that no symptoms preceded the routine PET scan findings.
Doctors informed Coulier that the new cancer is not connected to his previous lymphoma. Medical experts attribute the P16-positive cancer to a high-risk HPV infection, possibly contracted decades ago. The good news is that this type of cancer has a high cure rate, with a 90% curability rate according to his physicians. Immediate treatment has begun, involving 35 radiation sessions scheduled five days a week through the end of the month.
Coulier described radiation therapy as less aggressive than chemotherapy but acknowledged it still carries side effects. Throughout his health journey, Coulier has emphasized the critical role of early detection. He encourages regular medical screenings such as breast exams, colonoscopies, and prostate exams.
