Jon Lindstrom Returns to General Hospital as Kevin Collins
Jon Lindstrom is set to reprise his role as Kevin Collins on General Hospital starting December 2, marking his first return in a year. The actor discussed the challenges of balancing his General Hospital comeback with his ongoing role as Joey Armstrong on Beyond the Gates.
Lindstrom, who films General Hospital in Atlanta, explained how scheduling conflicts made his appearances sporadic. “Kevin had been fairly inactive for a long time,” Lindstrom shared, noting that returning to the role was an easy decision given the limited screen time previously.
When informing General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini about his commitment to Beyond the Gates, Lindstrom faced the question of whether he could do both. He said, “Technically, yes, but the shows are 2,000 miles apart,” highlighting the logistical challenges of working on two productions simultaneously.
To accommodate Lindstrom’s busy schedule, General Hospital arranged to film multiple scenes over a few days. This effort allowed Lindstrom to rejoin the cast without frequent travel interruptions. He also emphasized the excitement of reuniting with co-stars like Genie Francis (Laura Collins) and Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos).
Lindstrom described returning to Port Charles as emotionally significant. “It felt like going back to my hometown,” he said. “The cast and crew’s warm welcome made the experience feel like a reunion with old friends.”
Story-wise, Kevin Collins will become involved in Laura’s relationship with Sonny following the death of Professor Henry Dalton. Lindstrom observed, “Kevin doesn’t love the relationship but understands the value of human connection, being a psychiatrist.”
Aside from General Hospital, Lindstrom is passionate about his work on Beyond the Gates, praising creator Michele Val Jean for crafting layered characters. He likened his new role to a fresh start, appreciating the show’s energy and potential.
Lindstrom is also pursuing other creative endeavors, including his upcoming book Hollywood Payback and hosting the pilot The Bible on Trial. While open to future appearances on General Hospital, he emphasized that scheduling remains a key factor.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC, where fans can look forward to seeing Lindstrom’s Kevin Collins re-enter Port Charles’s complex world.
