Burglary at Home of WNBA Star Sabrina Ionescu and NFL Player Hroniss Grasu
The Los Angeles Police Department reported a break-in at the residence of WNBA player Sabrina Ionescu and NFL offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu on Monday night. The burglary occurred around 8 p.m. when an alarm was triggered by a broken glass sliding window at the back of the house.
Two masked intruders entered the property and stole multiple handbags valued at over $60,000, police said. Both athletes were not at home; a family member was the only person present during the incident.
Authorities are currently reviewing security camera footage as part of the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning, according to LAPD officials. Police took a report following the break-in to collect more details.
Ionescu plays as a guard for the New York Liberty and was the top pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. She received all-WNBA honors for four consecutive seasons and contributed significantly to the Liberty’s championship win two years ago. Ionescu is a native of Orinda and attended Miramonte High School.
Grasu, drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2015, has played for several NFL teams including the Ravens, 49ers, and Raiders. The offensive lineman attended Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino and last played with the Raiders in the previous season.
Their shared history dates back to their college days at the University of Oregon, where both athletes excelled. The burglary highlights ongoing concerns about security risks faced by professional athletes even when they are not at home.
