Former Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson has received encouraging news following his recent performances with the Miami Dolphins. Wilson’s gamble appears to be paying off as he has already appeared in three games this season for Miami. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel expressed dissatisfaction with the recent quarterback play following a loss on Monday Night Football. Speaking on December 16, he said, “I think the quarterback play last night was not good enough. And so, for me, everything’s on the table.” McDaniel also noted that the team was evaluating their roster to find the best chance to win in the upcoming games.
Tua Tagovailoa’s recent performance showed a 78.1% completion rate with 253 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception during a Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite these decent numbers, the Dolphins have reportedly discussed the possibility of a change at quarterback.
Wilson’s career stats amount to a 57.1% completion rate with 6,325 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. He holds a 12-21 record as a starter. Although Wilson has only completed six of nine passes for 32 yards this season, his experience could offer Miami a viable alternative.
Wilson, a second overall pick in the draft, signed a one-year contract worth $6 million with the Dolphins in the offseason. The Miami depth chart currently lists Wilson as the backup quarterback behind Tagovailoa, ahead of rookie Quinn Ewers.
Notably, Wilson’s backup role appears influenced by his veteran experience, including relief appearances in four career games. Ewers has appeared in one game this year with 53 yards passing on five completions out of eight attempts. This dynamic gives Wilson an edge as Miami weighs its options going forward.
