Elon University Officially Welcomes Richmond to Schar Center in Historic Event

The Elon men’s basketball team is preparing to host Richmond at the Schar Center on Wednesday night. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed via FloCollege.

This matchup marks the first meeting between the programs in over two decades. Richmond holds a 2-0 edge in the series, with their last win coming in 2004 by a score of 80-66. The rivalry dates back more than a century to their initial encounter in 1921.

Heading into the game, Richmond has compiled a strong 9-1 record. The Spiders are riding a four-game winning streak after an overtime victory over Southern Illinois. Richmond has played only one true road game this season, which was a win against Belmont.

Elon’s squad holds a 6-4 record and seeks its third consecutive win. The Phoenix showed resilience in their last outing by overcoming an 11-point second-half deficit to beat Northern Illinois 85-79. Chandler Cuthrell and Kacper Klaczek combined for 44 points in that comeback victory.

Cuthrell has emerged as a key player for Elon this season. He ranks third nationally with 22.7 points per game and leads the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring. The graduate forward shoots efficiently at 54.7% from the field and is also strong from beyond the arc at 36.4%.

Elon excels in perimeter shooting, ranking first in the conference for both made and attempted three-pointers per game. Randall Pettus II leads the league in three-point percentage and attempts, making 47.8% of his threes.

Sophomore Bryson Cokley provides valuable scoring off the bench, averaging 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in recent games. Elon has also enjoyed success on the road with three wins this season including a record-setting 35-point victory at Appalachian State.

The Phoenix will look to build momentum before their nonconference finale at Virginia Tech this weekend. Fans can support the team by purchasing tickets via TicketMaster and following Elon men’s basketball on social media for the latest updates.
