Town of Brunswick Investigates Two Water Main Breaks
Town crews in Brunswick are actively addressing two water main breaks that have disrupted water service for some residents. The initial break was reported on Thursday afternoon after multiple complaints about low water pressure surfaced.
Officials have localized the first suspected break to an area spanning approximately three square miles but have not yet pinpointed its exact location. Town Supervisor Philip Herrington explained that locating the leak is challenging due to the pipes being buried 12 to 15 feet underground.
The leaking water may be infiltrating the soil or nearby wetlands, making surface detection difficult. While crews continue to search for this first break, a second rupture was discovered Saturday evening near Laughing Earth Farms.
Repair efforts are currently underway at the second site. Town officials plan to resume their search for the initial break once the second repair is complete.
To assist residents affected by water outages, Brunswick has opened a warming and water station. Located at Brittonkill Central Schools on State Route 2 in Cropseyville, it offers potable water, bottled water, and shower facilities.
The station operates on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, the town installed a temporary water main along Route 2 between State Route 351 and the town line later Sunday evening. Residents in this zone are under a boil water advisory as a precaution.
Officials emphasize that these temporary measures aim to restore safe water access while repair work continues. The town has committed to providing ongoing updates as more information becomes available.
Residents are encouraged to monitor town communications and local news sources to stay informed. The prompt response from Brunswick crews highlights the community’s efforts to manage infrastructure challenges effectively.
