A woman from Paterson was charged after allegedly stealing a pair of $880 Gucci sneakers from a New Jersey mall. The theft occurred at the Nordstrom store inside the Westfield Garden State Plaza around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Security personnel at the Nordstrom reported the theft to Paramus police immediately. They described how the woman fled the store and entered the parking lot with the expensive shoes.
While on patrol, Sergeant Anthony Mordaga spotted a woman matching the suspect’s description getting into a vehicle. He pulled the car over and recognized the same Gucci sneakers reported stolen.
The 30-year-old woman was taken into custody without incident. Authorities charged her with possession of stolen property, classified as a third-degree crime.
The prompt action by the store’s security and police helped resolve the case quickly. Gucci sneakers at that price point are highly sought-after luxury items, making such thefts a concern for retailers.
Shops typically rely on surveillance and security protocols to reduce merchandise theft. In this incident, collaboration between store staff and local police was crucial.
Such cases remind consumers and retailers to remain vigilant in preventing shoplifting of high-value goods. Police continue to encourage the public to report suspicious behavior.
This arrest at a crowded mall highlights ongoing efforts to combat retail theft in popular shopping centers. Legal consequences aim to deter similar offenses.
