Demetrious Johnson Enters UFC Hall Of Fame, First Flyweight Immortalized

Demetrious Johnson will enter the UFC Hall of Fame in the modern wing as part of the 2026 class, adding another major milestone to one of the most decorated careers in mixed martial arts. UFC officials made the announcement during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night 271, confirming that the former longtime flyweight champion will be honored during International Fight Week.

Johnson becomes the first flyweight fighter to earn a place in the UFC Hall of Fame, a fitting recognition for a run defined by dominance and consistency. His resume includes a UFC-record 11 straight title defenses, a stretch that lasted from January 2013 to October 2017 and helped establish him as the standard at 125 pounds.

A career built on elite control

Johnson, now 39, compiled a 25-4-1 MMA record and went 15-2-1 in the UFC. His championship reign ended in a split decision loss to Henry Cejudo at UFC 227 in August 2018, which also marked his final octagon appearance.

Before that defeat, Johnson had already separated himself from the rest of the division with wins over top names such as Cejudo, Kyoji Horiguchi, John Dodson twice, and Joseph Benavidez twice. Those results helped cement his case as one of the most complete and successful fighters in UFC history.

From UFC champion to Hall of Fame recognition

Johnson’s UFC run ended in a surprising move in October 2018, when he was traded to ONE Championship in a landmark deal involving Ben Askren. He later continued his career outside the UFC and had his final MMA bout in October 2023 under the ONE Championship banner.

Since stepping away from competition, Johnson has remained active in the sport through his YouTube channel and collaborations with other fighters. His presence has kept him connected to fans while the wider MMA community continued to debate his place among the greatest fighters of all time.

2026 UFC Hall of Fame class

Johnson is the second announced member of the 2026 UFC Hall of Fame class. The other addition is the women’s strawweight title fight between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk from UFC 248, which will enter the fight wing.

  1. Demetrious Johnson — Modern wing
  2. Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk — Fight wing

The Hall of Fame call gives Johnson a permanent place in UFC history, reflecting both his record-setting title reign and his long-term impact on the flyweight division. His induction will also add another landmark moment to International Fight Week, where the UFC continues to honor the athletes and fights that shaped the promotion’s legacy.
