Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has been handed a one-game suspension after he was assessed his 16th technical foul in Friday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets, the NBA said. What led to the suspension

The penalty arrives after a recent technical-foul scare that briefly put Doncic on the edge of suspension. Last weekend, he picked up what was believed to be his 16th technical in a confrontation with Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze, but the NBA rescinded those technicals after the Lakers appealed.

NBA rules trigger an automatic one-game suspension when a player reaches 16 technical fouls in the regular season. After that point, each additional two technicals brings another automatic one-game ban.

That cost arrives during a strong scoring run for the Lakers star. Over his past 12 games, Doncic has averaged 39.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 2.5 steals, underlining how important his availability is for Los Angeles.
What it means for the Lakers
The Lakers will have to play one game without their leading offensive engine at a key point in the schedule. By the time Doncic is eligible to return, the team will have seven regular-season games left, leaving little margin for further disciplinary setbacks or roster disruptions.
