Houston’s first Fleet Week opens with a packed slate of public events honoring the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The citywide program runs from April 15 to April 22 and brings Navy and Coast Guard ships to the Port of Houston, where visitors can tour several vessels and meet more than 1,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen taking part.

The event was first planned for late last year but was delayed after a prolonged federal government shutdown. It now arrives during the 250th anniversary year of the United States, adding historical weight to a week built around military recognition, maritime culture and community access.

What Fleet Week Houston includes

Organizers say Fleet Week features 20 events across the Houston region, with a mix of free activities, ticketed programs and ceremonial observances. The schedule stretches from downtown Houston to Galveston, Seabrook, Pasadena, La Porte and The Woodlands.

A key part of the week is the ability for the public to tour participating ships at the Port of Houston. The Fleet Week EXPO at POST Houston serves as the launch point for buses that transport visitors to the port, while other events highlight military bands, aviation displays, civic ceremonies and family-friendly entertainment.

Main events to watch

  1. Parade of Ships in Galveston
  2. Fleet Week on the Plaza at Avenida Houston
  3. Fleet Week EXPO at POST Houston
  4. Aviation exhibit at Lone Star Flight Museum
  5. Community concerts by the Navy Ceremonial Band
  6. Veterans-focused VetConnect Day in Pasadena
  7. Drone show and street festival in Seabrook

The week begins with the Navy Band’s woodwind quintet performing at Buffalo Bayou Park before the official start. The Parade of Ships follows the next morning in Galveston, starting at Seawolf Park as the participating vessels head toward the Port of Houston.

Public events across Houston

Fleet Week on the Plaza will bring live music, food trucks, games and photos to Avenida Houston, with Houston soul and funk group The Suffers joining the Navy Band Southeast. Saint Arnold Brewing Co., Bad Astronaut Brewing Company and SpindleTap Brewery are also set to host social events that mix entertainment with service-member outreach.

At the Lone Star Flight Museum, the aviation exhibit will showcase historic and modern military aircraft over two days. The Fleet Week EXPO will also run for two days at POST Houston and will include interactive displays, demonstrations and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Ceremonies and community observances

The schedule also includes seven wreath-laying ceremonies at memorials across the region, including Veterans Memorial Park, Bear Creek Park, the Vietnam War Memorial, Fallen Warriors Memorial, John H. Reagan World War II Memorial Plaza, Bay Area Veterans Memorial and Medal of Honor The Woodlands.

These ceremonies give Fleet Week a more formal side, while other programmed stops such as the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Museum of Fine Arts and Sylvan Beach Park extend the event’s reach into arts, culture and waterfront communities.
