Adrian Del Castillo delivered the biggest swing of the night in extra innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks held off the Baltimore Orioles for an 8-5 victory at Camden Yards. Del Castillo finished with five RBIs, including a two-run homer in the 10th that broke the tie and lifted Arizona to its latest road win.
The result capped a strong stretch for Arizona, which went 6-3 on a nine-game trip through New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Baltimore, meanwhile, dropped consecutive games for the first time since an early-April sweep in Pittsburgh, and its bullpen could not contain Arizona after the game reached the late innings.
Del Castillo Breaks the Tie in the 10th
Arizona used the automatic runner rule to create immediate pressure in the top of the 10th, and Geraldo Perdomo moved Corbin Carroll to third with a sacrifice. Del Castillo then turned on a 2-0 fastball from Tyler Wells and drove it into the center-field bleachers for his first home run of the season.
Nolan Arenado added an RBI single later in the inning to give Arizona an extra cushion. Juan Morillo protected that lead with a scoreless 10th, while Ryan Thompson earned the win after throwing a clean ninth.
Big Night for Del Castillo at the Plate
Del Castillo was involved in nearly every key Arizona rally. He opened the scoring with a two-run triple in the third, then came through again when the game was tied in the seventh and his chopper off Grant Wolfram’s glove helped bring home a run.
That kind of production gave Arizona the margin it needed in a game that shifted back and forth. The Diamondbacks also got timely contact from Ketel Marte and Carroll in the seventh, setting up the winning sequence before Baltimore answered again in the bottom half.
Baltimore Responds, But Not Enough
Jeremiah Jackson powered the Orioles offense with a home run and three RBIs. His two-run shot in the fifth helped Baltimore stay close, and Leody Taveras later delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh to pull the Orioles even at 4-4.
Baltimore’s offense found ways to answer Arizona’s rallies, but the pitching staff could not stop the final push. Tyler Wells took the loss after allowing the decisive homer in the 10th, and the Orioles were left with another missed chance in a game that stayed tight for most of the night.
Starting Pitchers and Key Numbers
Eduardo Rodriguez started for Arizona and allowed four runs over five innings, striking out three. Kyle Bradish gave Baltimore a season-high six innings and also struck out three, but he gave up four runs as the Diamondbacks kept pressure on him with extra-base hits and traffic on the bases.
Arizona’s bullpen also held up in key spots, with Thompson working a scoreless ninth before Morillo closed it out. The win continued a successful road swing for the Diamondbacks, who now shift back home with momentum after taking two of three in each stop on the trip.
