AGF Snatch Top Spot Back, Teenager James Bogere Delivers Injury-Time Winner

AGF returned to the top of the Danish Superliga after a dramatic 2-1 home win over Sonderjyske, sealed by an injury-time strike from teenager James Bogere. The result put pressure on title rival FC Midtjylland and gave AGF a three-point cushion, although Midtjylland can still move back ahead if it beats Viborg FF because of a superior goal difference.

The match in Vejlby followed a familiar pattern for AGF this spring. They controlled large parts of the contest, created the clearer chances, and still needed a late moment of fortune to finish the job.

AGF take control but struggle to finish chances

Jakob Poulsen’s side began on the front foot and pushed Sonderjyske deep for long stretches. Kristian Arnstad had one of the best early openings after six minutes, but he failed to test Nicolai Flo properly with a poor finish from a promising position.

Gift Links also kept AGF moving with energetic play on the flank, but the hosts lacked a steady threat in the final third. That imbalance made the game feel tense despite AGF’s territorial advantage.

Poulsen responded at halftime by bringing on Frederik Emmery, and the change quickly improved the home side’s attack. Emmery won a duel on AGF’s left side and sent in a precise cross that Tobias Bech met with a strong header to open the scoring.

Sonderjyske answer before a late twist

AGF looked in control after Bech’s goal, yet Sonderjyske stayed alive and found a way back into the match. With nine minutes left, Anders Bergholt delivered across the box to Olti Hyseni, who scored his fifth goal of the season and his fourth in the spring.

That equaliser briefly shifted the mood in Vejlby and raised the possibility of another frustrating result for AGF. The home side had spent most of the evening on top, but the scoreboard no longer reflected that dominance.

The decisive moment arrived in the dying seconds when Bogere, only 18, fired from the edge of the area. The effort deflected off Maxime Soulas and slipped into the net, sparking celebration among the home fans and giving Bogere his first goal for AGF.

A young match-winner with a timely breakthrough

Bogere had come on for Gift Links and made the most of his chance in a match that needed a late intervention. His finish gave AGF more than three points on the night, because it also restored the club to first place and underlined the depth of its squad.

For Sonderjyske, the defeat left them punished by a match in which they spent much of the night under pressure but still found a route back into contention. For AGF, the performance again showed control, persistence, and a tendency to leave things late, even if the ending delivered exactly what the home side needed.
