Cody Bellinger powered the New York Yankees past the Baltimore Orioles 9-4 on Saturday with a four-hit night that included two home runs and four RBIs. The win gave New York its 12th victory in 14 games and kept the Yankees moving through a strong stretch at home.
Bellinger set the tone early and finished the night as the key difference in the game. He drove a solo homer in the second inning off Kyle Bradish, added a run-scoring double in the third, then later lifted another solo shot against Keegan Akin in the fifth before adding an RBI single in the seventh.
Bellinger’s big night lifts New York
The Yankees kept pressure on Baltimore with production spread across the lineup. Trent Grisham added a two-run homer in the fourth, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. later pushed across another run with an RBI single in the seventh.
New York finished with a season-high 11 games over .500 at 22-11 after turning a close game into a comfortable win. The offense also supported a pitching staff that has been among the best in the league this season.
Yankees pitching keeps setting the pace
Ryan Weathers took the loss for Baltimore after allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks over five-plus innings. The Yankees’ starting staff entered the day with a major league-best 2.62 ERA, a mark that has helped stabilize the team during its hot stretch.
Baltimore, meanwhile, fell for the third straight game and dropped to 0-7 against left-handed starters. The Orioles also had to watch Peter Alonso stay hot, as he homered for the second straight day in his first trip back to New York since joining Baltimore from the Mets.
Bellinger’s second homer came on a 363-foot drive into the right-field short porch, a shot that MLB Statcast noted would not have gone out in any other big league park. Jasson Domínguez also returned to the Yankees’ lineup and went 1 for 4 after missing time with a left elbow injury from Wednesday’s game.
Giancarlo Stanton also moved closer to a return, saying he hit in an indoor cage Friday for the first time since straining his right calf on April 23. The Yankees will next send left-hander Max Fried to the mound against Orioles right-hander Trey Gibson, who is set to make his major league debut after six starts at Triple-A Norfolk.
