Li Mega Recall Announced Over Battery Fire and Corrosion Risks Affecting Thousands of Vehicles

Li Auto, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has issued a recall for 11,411 units of its Li Mega MPV 2024. This recall addresses a potential safety threat related to inadequate corrosion protection in the vehicle’s cooling system.

The recall impacts Li Mega vehicles produced between mid-February and late December 2024. The company identified that the coolant used in these vehicles may lack sufficient anti-corrosion properties, which could lead to corrosion and leaks in the aluminum cooling plates protecting the power battery and front motor controller.

Battery Risks and Safety Warnings

In certain conditions, this defect might trigger warning lights on the dashboard, a sudden drop in vehicle power, or even prevent the car from starting. Li Auto stated, “In extreme cases, this can lead to thermal runaway in the battery, resulting in a potential fire hazard,” according to their official notification released to the public.

Li Auto’s recall action was formally filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the recall will begin next year. The company will replace the coolant, drive battery, and front motor controller free of charge for all affected vehicles.

Cloud-Based Safety System and Emergency Response

To enhance user safety, Li Auto introduced a cloud-based early warning system to monitor potential leaks and battery risks. This system automatically alerts affected drivers through dashboard warnings, text messages, and in-car audio alarms. Customers are also connected to 400 hotline support and the Ecall emergency service for immediate assistance.

If a driver receives a warning or error message, they are instructed to pull over safely and wait for help. Li Auto highlighted that vehicles not showing any warnings or error messages are still safe to use but advised all owners to schedule free replacement services after they receive official notification.

Sequence of Steps for Affected Owners

  1. Watch for dashboard indicators, text alerts, or in-car audio warnings.
  2. If a warning appears, pull over safely and contact Li Auto customer support at 400 or use the Ecall emergency feature.
  3. Follow further instructions from the support team and wait for on-site assistance if needed.
  4. Schedule a free replacement service immediately after receiving the official recall notification.

Background Incident and Company Statement

This large-scale recall follows a battery fire incident involving a Li Mega reported in late October 2025, believed to be linked to the cooling system issues. Li Auto emphasizes that the recall is part of its strengthened commitment to customer safety and proactive risk management. Industry analysts note that the company’s prompt response reflects shifting regulatory expectations and heightened consumer concern about EV battery incidents.

Li Auto’s move illustrates the importance of effective product oversight and the role of advanced cloud technology in vehicle safety monitoring. Owners are urged to stay alert for notifications and comply with recall instructions to prevent potential safety hazards.
