Police Bust Illegal Cockfighting Ring, Arrest Several Suspects and Seize Fighting Roosters

Police conducted a raid on an illegal cockfighting gambling ring in Konawe, arresting eight suspects and seizing several gamecocks and equipment. The operation took place late at night in Desa Watulawu, Kecamatan Amonggedo, a village reported by residents as a frequent venue for unlawful cockfighting activities.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 53, were identified by their initials: DK, HA, EW, SP, AM, TH, IA, and BN. Police acted swiftly after receiving credible information from the community, confirming the presence of illegal gambling before raiding the site around 11 PM local time.

Details of the Arrest and Evidence Confiscated

Officers from the Konawe Police Resort’s Criminal Investigation Unit confiscated five fighting gamecocks, two cockfighting rings, and approximately one million rupiahs in cash believed to be proceeds from bets. The suspects originated from several areas, including both Konawe Regency and Kendari City.

All individuals apprehended and the seized items were transported to Polres Konawe headquarters for further interrogation and legal processing. The police station is located about 37 kilometers from the raid location.

The arrested parties face charges under Articles 303 and 55 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning gambling offenses. Authorities are currently conducting in-depth investigations and preparing documents to support formal prosecution.

AKP Taufik Hidayat, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, emphasized a firm stance against gambling. He stated, “We are committed to taking firm action against all forms of gambling that disrupt community harmony. This law enforcement effort is part of our ongoing operations to maintain security and order ahead of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.”
