Oura Ring 5 Shrinks The Smart Ring, Yet Extends Battery Life and Feels More Like Jewelry

Oura is pushing its smart ring further into jewelry territory with the launch of Oura Ring 5. The new model is built to look and feel more like a traditional ring, while still keeping the health-tracking features that made the product line popular.

The company says Ring 5 is the smallest smart ring in the world. It is also described as about 40 percent smaller than its predecessor, roughly 30 percent thinner, and around two millimeters narrower, all of which are meant to make it more comfortable for all-day wear.

A full redesign behind the smaller body

Oura says Ring 5 was rebuilt from the ground up. That redesign covers the mechanical, electrical, optical, sensor, and battery architecture, which allowed the company to shrink the device without giving up its core functionality.

The timing also places the new ring in a fast-moving product cycle. Ring 5 arrives about a year and a half after Ring 4 and seven months after Ring 4 Ceramic.

Battery life improves despite the reduced size

The smaller body does not come at the cost of endurance. Oura says Ring 5 can last up to six to nine days on a single charge, up from five to eight days on Ring 4.

That improvement is paired with updated sensors. Oura says the sensor system has been re-engineered for better skin contact, and stronger LEDs were added to improve readings across different skin tones and finger sizes.

Health tracking gets deeper

One of the biggest additions is Health Radar, a background monitoring system designed to track important biometric signals. It launches alongside Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Breathing.

Blood Pressure Signals monitors nighttime cardiovascular patterns and can alert users when the data points toward signs of elevated blood pressure. Users can also manually enter cuff-based blood pressure readings into the Oura app.

Nighttime Breathing provides a rolling 30-day view of breathing patterns during sleep and any disturbances. The feature expands Oura’s focus on sleep and recovery, which has long been central to the brand’s appeal.

More activity tools in the app

The app is also getting stronger workout support. Oura now offers live activity tracking, letting users see pace, distance, and heart rate in real time during exercise.

Automatic activity detection has also been improved to better recognize low-motion workouts. Activities such as Pilates, which were easier to miss before, are now said to be detected more accurately.

New software for older rings too

The software update is not limited to Ring 5 buyers. Features such as blood pressure signals, live activity tracking, nighttime breathing analysis, and on-demand AI-based care will also roll out to Oura Ring Gen3 and newer models.

In the United States, Oura is also working with Counsel Health to offer AI-assisted medical guidance and access to licensed doctors directly inside the app. That service comes with an additional cost on top of the monthly Oura subscription.

Price, colors, and availability

Oura Ring 5 is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping on 4 June. The ring comes in sizes 6 through 13 and is offered in Silver, Brushed Silver, Black, Stealth, Gold, and Deep Rose.

Black and Silver are priced at $399, while the other finishes cost $499. For comparison, Ring 4 launched at $349, making the latest model more expensive, but also smaller, longer-lasting, and more capable in health tracking.
